Hi guys,
just got a lead on a 89 FZR parts bike for sale, both wheels, front shocks, calipers, swing arm the rolling stock.
Thinking about grabbing it to up date my 84 stock FJ, pretty sure this is one of the usable donor bike but thought I'd better check first.
Thanks
G'day grannyknot, don't let it get away. I've done both front end and back end mods using a '90 FZR1000 ('89 & '90 similar) donor parts. The forks bolt straight on using the FZR triple clamps. You will need to fabricate some extensions for your clip-ons if you want to retain the same steering geometry. Simple job. You may also have to grind some material off your ignition switch to prevent it rubbing on the steering head. I used the FZR front fender, which is a perfect fit and in my opinion, looks a lot better than the FJ fender. Add a pair of blue spot calipers if you like or use the FZR calipers, either of which will improve braking greatly. Rear wheel swap involves some machining work but there are very detailed instructions in the mods section. Add new 17" radials at both ends and you won't believe it's the same bike. Regards, Pete. :i_am_so_happy:
Just found out that the front forks are from a 91/FZR 600 17"wheel, 38mm forks, are these of any use?
can you post some close up shots I would like to see your mods. thanks

They are of no use to you. Here's 2 big reasons...
1) the FJ uses 41mm diameter stanchion tubes and at over 500+lbs needs every millimeter. 38mm is too small. (I think that the oem FJ 41mm is too small)

2) A quick check on Race Tech's site shows the FZR600 forks to be damper rod (not cartridge) forks. Don't go thru the time and effort of a front end swap unless you get cartridge forks out of the deal. They are much better than damper rod forks. Damper rod forks are what you have now. You want to upgrade.

Thanks guys,
