Title: Renntec enginge guards
Post by: WhiteBeard on October 13, 2011, 06:35:22 AM
First of all, sorry about bringing this subject up again, I know its been up a few times already, including this summers group buy.
I am planning to order a pair of engine guards myself, but when writing to Renntec themselves, they have expressed doubts as to whether the early FJ1200 guards will fit an '85 FJ1100. However, when reading the posts here on the forum, it seems that the fit is actually possible?
Once again, sorry if I missed something, just wanted to find out for sure before I go and order the Renntecs. Anybody out there with a pic of mounted engine guards on an 1100?

Thanks a bunch,
Nat

My understanding is no, they don't.  Alan H bought a pair of 1100 bars and they didnt fit his 1200.  Guess who made out like a bandit on that deal?!?   Thank you Alan!   :yahoo:

It does seem that they do fit? Maybe I am missing something here...

I have the Rentecs on my '85.  They are the same ones that fit the '86 and '87 model years.

Thanks, it is my favorite.  Now it's got a YZF rear  wheel.

And yes, that is the stock exhaust

Do they fit without any modification?

BTW, a little off-topic but how does one get the exhaust pipes in such good condition? I've heard of ceramic coating but never really looked into it before...
Will upload some pictures of my own ride when I get the chance.

No mods necessary to the bars.  Frames are identical (except for lower fairing mounts) from '84 to at least '87 (maybe even up to '90?).

As far as the exhaust goes, it helps if you're the original owner of the bike and able to store it in a nice garage when not in use.  Lots of cleaning and polishing also helps.  I usually do a thorough cleaning and polishing of the header tubes in the winter, along with a fresh coat of high temp paint on the collector box.
