Title: FJ1200 Running Issues Help!!!!
Post by: jeffwest5599 on September 17, 2011, 09:15:37 PM
I just picked up a 1986 FJ1200. The guy I bought it from said he pulled the carbs and cleaned them.  The problem is this.  It will only start on the choke and idles very slowly.  It will die if I give it any gas.  If it sits for a little bit.  When I start it (on the choke) it will fire and idle right for about 2 seconds then go back to the slow idle and eventually die.  I cannot get it to idle or even give it gas.  Any idea what to check and what the settings should be on the carbs.  I see the three I believe idle screws on the front of the carbs and the small flathead screws on the top of the carbs.  I am not familiar with these FJ1200s so any help is appreciated.  The bike has not rn in a while and I am wondering what a good start for settings and where on the carbs.    Let me know what your thoughts are.

Air leak, or your "clean carbs" aren't.

The three screws are for synch.  For idle mixture there's one per carb, the sync are the 3 between the carbs, the idle adjustment is underneath.  There might be a little bit of information around here someplace if you look :)

If it hasn't run in more than two weeks, the carbs are unquestionably gummed inside, no matter how clean they were when the prior dude cleant them.
