Hi, since taking the FJ out for a decent run ive heard a very slight ticking noise from the camshaft area ...should i presume this is normal , the bikes done 43000 miles . Any recommended oil i can use to quieten the noise if that could be a solution or would i need to investigate the noise in more detail . The bike only does this when throttling off (popcorn)
Front right front side under the valve cover? If so, all 3 of my FJs made that noise. Being an air cooled motor with no water jacket to muffle these sounds, there are a lot of noises that these engines make. A little noise from the valves are happy valves.
If it's really loud then have it checked out.
Cheers,
CraigO
I did a full adjustment on all my valves just a few months ago, and they are chattering some, but not super loud. I guess that's fine.

Thanks craigo :good2:...thats put my mind at rest , the noise is not loud just a slight chatter hardly noticeable but guess i was being over cautious .
Thanks all
Sorry , forgot to put that yes it was the right hand side valve cover the noise was coming from ...
A loose/loud valve is a happy valve. If you don't hear a little chatter you should look into checking your valves. They tighten up with use.
