Title: fuel gauge on wrong side of stop peg.
Post by: DanielW on September 07, 2011, 10:06:26 PM
I appreciate all the DIY info which is really helpful on this forum.

Someone had mentioned that a strong magnet might be used to rotate the needle back to it's normal position on the left side to the stop peg (beside the "E")  I tried it with my magnet parts pick up tool, but it only wiggled needle a small amount.  So, I went to Lowe's and purchased 2  2.5 inch sized ceramic magnets.  When both of them were together they appear to exert a strong force which DID WORK !
Being careful not to scratch the clear lens over the face of the fuel gauge rotate the magnets counterclockwise and the needle will be drawn around to the top near "F" and continue on down toward "E" and the left side of the peg.   This should be done with Key Off, so you won't be working against the gauge (assuming you had a full or partial tank of fuel)

The magnets would be a good trip interruption item for your tool kit.  Possibly preventing running out of fuel,  pushing the heavy beast and the heart attack or accident that might follow.?!

Ride safe now..... you DO realize that this bike goes much faster that anyone sane should ride!!

Yep....   Do you use HP to get into trouble, or to stay out of it... ? Double yellow lines are not an opinion, its the law. :) During the summer here we have about one bike related death a week. Most of them were violating traffic laws. A few hit by cars with inattentive drivers,
cell phones, trying to beat red lights, improper lane changes, etc...  I say all this to help fellow riders stay alive. Dying is one thing, dying of stupidity is another.   Stay alive and ride the wind.

Same here.  Seems that the majority are drunk.  Only very rarely is excessive speed (really excessive, not just "speeding") the cause.

If you don't correct the problem with the gauge, you'll be doing this often... if not right now, pretty soon.
