Kinda cool video of a 200 mph run. I've never done 200 on a bike! :diablo:

They used 18 cents worth of electricity for that run...amazing.
so quiet.... just a bit of gear whine.... electrics are coming.
KOokaloo! (quietly?)
I don't think it's gear whine; I suspect either it's an inverter making AC for the motor or the motor it self.
My 2¢

and trillions of dollars in power generating infrastructure,,,
Sounds like Ozzie sour grapes to me.
Maybe they used a solar panel ...

the kangaroo's know how to turn the lights off?
Kookaloo!
That there's been electrical inventions going back a long time, electric cars too and we are only now starting to see some innovation.
Profitable thing, the production and consumption of electricity.

I was at Buttonwillow for a track day with a friend and Steve Rapp flew in in the morning (landing on the track) to test the "Mission" electric race bike. We got to spend some time in their pit area asking questions and looking at the bike.... See the generator in the background.... I guess they could use solar but it would have to be a pretty darn big panel... that's a 25KW generator... pretty good size. BTW- Steve Rapp is a super nice guy.

You could watch the bike take a charge and hear the gene grunting. The bike was hot and the "techs" were constantly watching the rate of charge as to not over heat the battery. Notice the cooling tubes and the meter hanging on the charge cable in the last shot. Their were 4 dudes that were way more "Computer Tech/Electrical Engineer" than anything else- probably one gut that could tune suspension... Look at all the gear on the ground. They were taking power from the gene and cleaning it up I think prior to sending it to the bike.

The bike was an amazing piece of equipment: at least 1/3 computer and probably 1/3 battery... the rest was recognizable frame and suspension. The sound was eerie... not gear whir and not electric motor something else....a combo of the two perhaps- but so quiet for what you were seeing the bike do. Also- it smelled like a brand new stereo receiver if you know what I mean.
New electronics smell :pardon:

Actually saw what I believe was an EV1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Motors_EV1) on the highway today, managing a respectable 70mph or so. Bright headlights, too.
Electric cars and electric bikes are neat to see the technology evolve, but it's a damned silly idea. Move the pollution to the generation source (so not really so "green" eh?) and hours to refuel?
Fooey.

Fooey? Well you got the first letter right.....No, not fooey, the
Future.
Future is correct, how much in the future is the 500 billion dollar question. It sure would be nice to move away from petroleum based engines and figure out how to harness renewable enrgy sources for making the electricity to power electric vehicles. Green is potentially good for the environment and the bank account.
Kudos Terry, that is accurate and succinct....

Been looking into EV conversions, it was actually how i came to own my first FJ then i was hooked bought number 2 and now a XJR. The first FJ was going to be the donor chassis for EV but unfortunately i succumb to the ICE!!! check this little number out gotta love the effort put into to this bike, Oh and turn up the sound !

I think electrics will catch on for all the mudane -- day to day stuff -- but when it comes to all around fun and sport -- you need the sound - mechanics - that only the smelly, noisy exhaust can bring.
I hoping electrics bring the gas prices down so I can enjoy my other toys more.

I had a chemistry professor years ago that made fun of electric vehicles. He said that there is no point in creating electric cars until we can figure out a clean way to charge their batteries... then of course the batteries themselves are not at all "green" and will be around for 10's of thousands of years beyond their use date......
Perception is that you are being really "green" by not using fossil fuels but when you get down to the calculation of how much pollution it generates to charge the battery vs. burn the fuel he claimed it is a loss to use the battery. It was years ago but it was common sense and math. The only upside of starting to make the cars now is that we need to develop the technology so that when we do have a clean energy source in the future the electric cars and bike are already here...
