Curious - anyone have experience with AeroStitch one piece suits? I'm getting tired of wearing leather and lugging a rain suit - just looking for opinions - also opinions about alternatives - I've been thinking of getting one of these danged things for > 10 years but the $$$ has always put me off -
thanks
Steve
I can't speak for them personally, but I have a co-worker who wears one religiously and thinks it's the bees-knees. The cost has put me off, too.
Dean's Aerostitch crash test photo series:

yowser - on around pic 13 it looked like a nice, gentle low side with a bit of sliding but by pic 15 it was obvious he was going over the bars! Last time I tested my leathers :greeting: and helmet I hit a ground hog :shok: while leaned over (old XS750 Yammie) - pulled that one off - leaned back into the corner and the danged front tire blew off the rim :dash2: - tank slaps followed by a superman over the bars and onto the pavement - only thing that hurt was when the bike landed on my leg! Did blow out a sleeve zipper, wear a hole in my helmet and the butt of my leathers - but hey - that's life in the fast lane (speed limit 35, approx velocity on that old shaft drive pig when I hit the pavement? Probably 70+)
Figure I'll go with the AeroStitch - more likely to wear it every day than racing leathers -
Cheers and thanks!

I've had my one piece 'stich for eight years now. Love it.
i especially like the nifty angle of leg/knee/ankle in frame 24. ( :
but getting back to the question, i've owned some form of an aerostich since 1999 or so, and have been very happy with them.
they make the very best suits in the whole wide world bar none.
(wait for it)
couple things to consider..
1. Generally speaking, one piece aerostich guys are pretentious pricks.
2. I hear motoport stuff is a lot better.
fuck you danny. just fuckin'-a fuck you you fuck.
you guys need to hug... :empathy3:

1. Everyone has a right to their own opinion
2. I hear motoport (kevlar) stuff is super comfy, protective and can be ordered for a perfect custom fit @ no extra charge.
+1

Good article on 'stich vs. Motoport http://www.webbikeworld.com/r3/motoport/ (http://www.webbikeworld.com/r3/motoport/)
I hold a PhD in statistics so being a pretentious arse-hole is a given :blum1: - problem is that for years (student loans do come due) I've been a cheap pretentious prick! Never the less, I'd rather be a well protected cheap pretentious prick than a douche bag  riding about in sandals, gym shorts a wife beater and no helmet (I do live in PA where you're free to ride lid-less!) I'll check out the other gear - but this time around I'm looking for the best over the long term -
thanks all for the feed back!
cheers

i will say i thought long and hard before ordering my motoport stuff.... i couldnt be happier with the custom fit and how protected i feel in it..... the bottom line however was this...
1) How expensive is one trip to the hospital emergency room?
and
2)what dollar amount would i put on the pain and suffering associated with road rash? . (i've experienced it before so i know the pain levels involved)
it was an easy choice/ purchase after putting those numbers down on paper.
KOokaloo!
By the looks of it the bike came off surprisingly well

As much as I like my 'stich, if I had to buy new gear I'd get Motoport, mostly for the comments about managing heat better. I suspect both would protect you well in a get-off, but on my ride home from Maine I found the heat a bit much. Each stop in the afternoon was a chance to pour cold water down my back, inside the 'stich. That made it OK until the next stop, but after 800km of that kind of riding I can appreciate gear with better air flow.
It's easy to add layers to get warm. Cooling off is more of a challenge.
Thank you for the input - I'm going to check out alternatives and pull the trigger, likely in the next week or so. As for heat management, I tend to ride in full leathers so if I can stand a humid 93f day in South Central PA encased in leather I can probably survive it wearing nylon! I'm looking to AeroStitch because I'm tired of wearing leather and carrying (or forgetting and suffering the consequence) a rain suit - I want one suit to do it all.
As for the cost - considering what it would cost to replace the body work on a cherry '84 FJ1100 plus the deductible from my heath insurance, 800 bucks is a comparative bargain!
Again - thanks for the input -

I ride in my stich into the 90s. Once it gets above about 95 I go to a mesh jacket with the stitch pants (2 piece). Above 100 I'm wearing mesh everything.
The stitch is the most versatile gear I own. I'll get another when this one is worn out.

anything >80F means mesh for me. In fact all my non-mesh gear has been on hangers since the first of June. I'd rather wear the heavier more protective stuff but I just can't stand it in this weather. Looking forward to some cool weather and comfortable riding in my heavier gear.

Nah, not really... he's gotten soft and gotten a Beemer and everything.
He's even opted for the luxo kabin next month...

No doubt that's part of my problem - damn BMW has the fairing from hell. :diablo: Zero wind below neck level.
Good news is I don't get wet in the rain.
so what kind of bikers do you dig, then?

80 degrees AND mesh???
I think I'd freeze. :-) That's definitely full stich weather. Or at least a perfed leather jacket with a liner.

Sorry to pipe in late, but I've only just recently had the chance to "road test" my aerostich. I have been wearing it religiously since I bought it 9 years ago. I lost traction turning onto a highway from a side street, and went down doing about 15mph on my v-strom. My suit did what I needed it to do. I was a little sore from hitting the road, but not a mark on me. I would have bought another one the next day if needed, but I can hardly tell I went down in it.
Buy the Aerostich, you won't regret it.
I hadn't heard of Motoport. I like the idea. I very much like the idea of the warmer Aerostich due to the shorter riding season due to the altitude here. I commute almost 70 miles each way from 5550 to 8000ft. Usually jeans and a winter coat are doable with exceptions in mid May, often only till mid Sept. That nice toasty Roadcrafter sounds like an extra 6 weeks to me.
Wish I could blow $1000.
Come to an east coast rally and you'll get to see the entire stich Power Ranger contigent in all the colors. At least you used to.....
