So I am rebuilding the front calipers on my '92 FJ1200. I may have run into a problem with them. Does anyone know where I might find the o-rings that go in between the two halves. Clymer manual stated just to discard and replace them. I didn't discard them but may misplaced one. I checked Yamaha shop and no go. I also checked Handyman with no luck.
I am going to keep looking around to see if I can find it. :dash1:
Help yourself out more than you know, and install later model calipers, and reap the rewards of better braking and be done with the original ones.
I already purchased all the parts for the rebuild and put the seals in.

Check companies that do hydraulic hose work.... they usually have o-rings that are brake fluid friendly in many sizes.

Ride Well,

I have a set of OEMs off of a 90 w/ HH sintered pads in almost new condition. If interested, make me an offer.
But really, you should go and spend the $80 or so dollars and buy a set of blue spots off of ebay. Much better than the OEMs.

Here is a set I just found for a scant $50 delivered. This is your best bet on the front brakes.

+1 on the blue dots! Best upgrade I've done on my FJ. So far. Found a set with master cylinder & hoses for $75.00 from ebay. 2 finger stops, ya gotta love it. :i_am_so_happy:
Kookaloo, ya'all,

Well I found the last seal. I do appreciate the input and checking on ebay. I am planning on upgrading the brakes, just not right now. I have spent so much money replacing parts so I can get her back on the road that I want to get some of it paid off before getting anything else. I am really tempted to get the vibranators once Randy gets them in but may have to wait on those as well.
I am working on her every chance I get.. As soon as she is done and polished up I'll post some pics. Can't wait.. It's been a long ten years coming. I never thought this day would come. With everyones help here, Randy at RPM and my local Yamaha shop it's going to finally happen.. :drinks: :yahoo: :bye2: :good:
Late model calipers are pretty good brakes.
There probably have been many discussions here about the subject, but the right pads and good hoses make a whole lot of difference!
When replacing or reinstalling the o-rings around the pistons, I find it best to use a lubricant made for this job.
ATE make a good one.
Not using any lubricant can cause the pistons to stick to the o-rings in time.
All the work done for nothing.
