Title: Fooled
Post by: jf ahamay on August 07, 2011, 10:41:48 PM
I was at a stop light the other day and thought I had my first local FJ sighting.
As the bike made a lefty turn right past me I saw Kawasaki on the tank. After a little studying
I think I may have been looking at a mid to late 90's Concours. Can anyone confirm the Concours as
an FJ ripoff?

They're comparable, I suppose if you squint a bit and it's dark out?

The Concours was a shaft final drive -no?

Seems pretty far-afield mechanically anyway.

A good friend had a mid 90's model Concours, maroon just like the one pictured.  I rode it a fair amount back to back with my 91 FJ.  It was a beast. >700 lbs, iirc.  If it were intended as an FJ ripoff it was not well executed..  Looking back, relative to FJ I would describe it as: heavy, slow, buzzy, less comfortable and way inferior handling.
All I can say for it was it held a lot of gas and had good factory bags and more roomy for two up.
Otherwise :boredom:

I rode one of the new Concours-14's....all I can say is  :shok:..frikkin rocket ship. Lays down streakies without even trying. Nice and smooth and comfy. Looks to be a good long hauler.

Cheers...Jake

Did Kawasaki make a bike that looked more like an FJ than this?

I parked next to one the other day - it does look the part, but a bit of a fatty - 100lb heavier than an FJ

I'd say a GPZ1100 was the closest, built at about the same time and for a comparable role.
