I was searching through the FJowners archive, came across a topic about getting more voltage to the coils and therefore improving the spark and in turn the running. I figured it would be a good improvement while I was putting money aside for a new starter motor from CA. My bike is a 1985 FJ1100.

I used a 30amp relay, 15amp wire from the solenoid, 10amp wire for the rest. I connected it all up, and jump started from the car....well the bike fired up straight away and very "strongly" with a little choke and twist of the handgrip, and then promptly died as though all spark had gone. I tried it over and over with the same result before the starter motor would not respond, just a "click" (another reason I will be upgrading the starter!)
Prior to the coil relay the bike would start and stay running.
Have I made an error in the wiring? I checked it over and it seemed correct. When the bike starts, is power from the solenoid disconnected in the expectation that the bikes alternator will be supplying power? In case it could be an issue, I removed the air box and put pod filters in place, just for ease of working on the bike. Could this be the issue?
I will try again in the morning with the old wiring connected to see if she does the same again. I was wondering if others have had the same issue and solved it by correcting either a wire placement, etc.

No, the car was not running. But often when I jump start I have to run the car as the two brush starter is piss weak.
Are you sure you have it connected to the correct side of the solenoid? There maybe something else wrong, but that's the first place I'd check. Pete.
I think I wired it up to the wrong side of the solenoid, after correcting the error, I tried to start it and the starter motor died. Disassembly of the starter revealed a cracked brush, and dislodged wiring connections. So now I will have to wait till I put in a new starter to see if my correction works.
I have attached a picture diagram of what I have done, I am sure I got it right?

Your wiring logic looks good to me!
Pulling power from the wrong side of the relay will certainly cause your bike to die when the starter is de-energized.
