If I were to get a Touring sport -- FJR would be the one -- I heard there are some heat issue on the 05 and down.... something about how the heat flow around the engine causing the heat to blow out on to the knees and even heating the frame till it hurts...but that was all I was able to get from the owner at the time....and may have misunderstood exactly what the issue was.

He suggested 06 or better

So I can assume you guys are happy converts ,no problems? I have heard a lot of good things about these bikes, but there has to be some flaws

So could Chris P, Henry or Eric Noble PLEASE ohm out their front brake switch and tell me the results.  I installed a FJR master on the front of my FJ and the brake switch I got from Yamaha turns the brake light off when I apply the front brake.

Please  :i_am_so_happy:

heff joffman emailed me and other fj-to-fjr converts a little while ago, after the spring rally where he premiered his new-to-him '05 or so fjr.  his email referenced that he had just spent some riding in warm weather, and the bike blows regarding heating up the rider legs.  i've not encountered the problem with my '07, i believe it was big enough of a problem that yamaha did some mods in the gen II to take care of most of it.

if you're considering getting an fjr, be aware of the recalls, not sure if all recalls affect all years, but here are the recalls i "recall", har har:

1) ignition switch
2) fuel/altitude monitor computer thingy;
3) most recently, the "spider" wiring harness thing; i just got the recall notice last week.

Love the FJR.  I've got a Gen II, so heat isn't much an issue, no more than any other bike, I believe.  Gen Is are another issue.

I've done a saddle sore 1K on the FJR, did 900 miles each way to Memphis in snow, and ridden in Boone.  Its a solid bike, but it is a bit bigger than the FJ.  My FJ seems tiny, now.  I think the FJ is definitely a better choice in the twisties.

I'll be riding it up to MA in a couple weeks.  And an FJR just won the Iron Butt Rally last month.

So really,

Can one of you nice chaps please ohm out your brake switch and let me know what you found.  As I said before, I have a switch for a 06 FJR that works opposite of every other brake switch I have come across.  What I need to know is, does the brake switch show open or closed when you actuate the brake.

In other words, when the pin is all the way out, is it open or closed?  The pin is all the way out when you use the brake.  Open means there is no continuity and closed means that it has continuity, or completes the circuit.

HELP!!!!

Thanks,

CraigO

I spoke at length with a FJR owner while at Mid Ohio. He had an 02 with 53,000 miles and verified the heat problem. He showed me the rear of the tank and surrounding plastic that had softened the paint to the point fibers from his pants were embedded in the paint. Yikes!
