Title: service
Post by: Medi on June 25, 2011, 10:54:45 AM
Hey guys, i just got a FJ1200 and it came with a short to do list. one of the things needed is to rebuild front and rear master cylinders and replace the brake lines with stainless.
I saw one of the members is giving away parts and i saw the brake assembly in the stash. Is it better to just replace it or rebuilding them is easy?

p.s. I'm mechanically challenged.

Rebuilding them isn't hard.  You'll probably need a set of snap-ring pliers to do it (don't remember anymore).  The harder bit is bleeding them after you're done.

And the master I have pictured will need to be rebuilt anyway in all likelihood.

And bleeding is more about patience.  Just keep working the air out of it and do not give up to easily.

Bleeding takes ten minutes at most.  Think about what you're doing and how that relates to the fluid and air, consider what the air is likely to do.  Don't need a bunch of goofy tools either, though a mityvac makes it a pinch more efficient to get things started if the system's totally dry.
