Title: Transmission Interchangability
Post by: nvmike24 on June 23, 2011, 07:30:56 AM
Hay All, I am just getting my feet wet on the 84 Fj i just purchased. Previous owner said he had a shift update installed to help with the 2nd gear problem. He said it cured his trouble. I must ride much harder then he. I have 2nd problems and 3rd once. thinking multiple troubles. Drum, fork and dogs. I am thinking toward updating to entire newer trans from FJ1200 that comes with factory undercut gears. Does anyone know if it has been done yet or will work?

Mike,
You can use any FJ transmission and I do it all of the time.

They changed the length of the output shaft by 8mm when they went to the XJ series engine. You will only find those engines here in the US from the Legends cars.

You need to replace the forks with current new as two of the three now carry the most updated part number for the XJR engine. I have all of the forks in stock.

none of the gears are undercut from the factory.... only the shift forks were updated.
