Hello All,
Anyone here own a 06 FJR or later? I bought a new brake light switch from Yamaha and it seems to be operating the exact opposite of it's intended purpose. What I would like is that someone ohm out their switch and let me know if that when the brake is applied, will the switch be in the open position and vice versa, will the switch be in the closed position when not applying the brake.
Motoworld of El Cajon told me that because of the anti-lock brake system, that the switch will operate in the opposite of all other brake light switches. I have spoken to Yamaha in Cypress, CA and they told me to speak to Motoworld to verify what I told them is true, which they did.
Sooooo, does anyone here have a 2006+ FJR1300? If so, can you verify that the brake light switch is open while the brake is NOT applied?
Thanks for your help,
CraigO
there are three terminals on the FJR brake switch... IIRC the center pin is the common.... the pin on one end is normally closed with the common... the pin on the other end is normally open with the common pin.
if your switch is operating backwards try switching the wire on one end pin to the other end pin.
this should take care of the issue.
KOokaloo!

The switch only has 2 terminal posts. So again, I need someone to ohm theirs and see if this switch is operating correctly. It's off a 06 FJR1300.
Thanks again,

That's the 03 schematic, if that helps. Appears to have a 2 pin brake switch.
Andy,
Thanks for the schematic. As I look it over, I see that the switch is in the open position. My switch is in the closed position. Can't seem to get the local dealer or Yamaha to send me a data sheet on the switch. Nor are they willing to research this for me. Oh well, I tried.
Nice carb diagrams you put out, BTW.
Thanks
CraigO
I believe in the Electrical portion of the service manual it will show whether switch is normally open or normally closed.
Are you talking about the Front brake light switch? If so then it will be closed when you take it off the bike. The front lever holds it in an open state when it is not depressed. When you squeeze the front brake lever, the switch button is allowed to move to its natural closed state. You can touch the wires together to light the brake light, this will test the wiring out.
