Title: 1987 fj 1200 sensor issues.......
Post by: Fjninja on May 11, 2011, 01:54:07 PM
okay after 15 years I finally got my fj running.... I took it out and ran for about 100 miles with no problems. at the end of my trip the fj kept cutting out. I quickly learned that it was necessary for me to hold a clutch partially in or I would lose power. I have another 1987 fj 1200 and I took the clutch lever switch off of that. I tested it per the haynes manual. It passed so I installed it. Now when I go to put it in gear it immediately stalls. I cut the kickstand switch and tied the 2 wires together since it's a push to break switch. This not help the issue. anyone interested in buying a couple used fj 1200's ? I have had enough and am leaving for overseas soon. Oddly enuff when I was riding it I was in love with it just like I remembered. Then it bit me like a snake in the weeds!

Sounds like the kickstand switch, as you surmised... Perhaps check the wiring... Maybe it was cut farther down the line?

Got it! You were correct, I just needed to trace the sidestand switch wire higher up. When I did this I found a section that
Was badly frayed. I spliced it and pinned it together and viola! :good2:
