Well the beautiful, stock '90 I sold was stolen from the owner's parking spot in Oakland over the weekend... yea, I know. Given it was in Oakland, probably lucky the thief didn't come to his condo and rape/rob the guy.
Anyway, I am keeping an eye out for an attempted sale or part-out. It is a red/wht/dk blue/light blue paint scheme with a 4-1 Supertrapp and a Wingrack, probably not the most common bike out there, and had about 12,000 mi when stolen.
If you see anything like this pop up, please let me know... hate to see that wonderful bike destroyed. And the poor owner is now working me over to sell him my '92 (that I decided to keep for now thank you very much)!

I hate thieves. I have had a bike stolen and the 1st thing I wanted to do was to hunt the bastards down and give them some Muslim justice. (cut off their hands)
Don't sell him the 92 because it will suffer the same fate.

I hate to hear an FJ got stolen. I hope the bike turns up and the owner can get it back. I suppose I dont feel so silly using a disc lock on mine, At least that way the thieves have to carry the bike to haul it off. Good luck on getting it back...

You know that my wife is VERY protective of our FJ. She is always worried that it'll be stolen. I tried to reassure her that the FJ is too old and no one would steal her. I mean. c'mon, she is 21 years old. Who would want to steal a 21 year old bike? Then this post comes along and now, I have to hide it from my wife. However, now I am worried that my bike could be stolen. (say it ain't so :shout: :negative:)
Now I feel I need to get a bit better protection for her than just the fork lock. So this is for the group question, what would you use to protect your bike while in public to prevent her from being stolen? Rotor lock? Thru the wheel kryptonite lock? Some electrical lock out? What?????
Hope to hear some real solutions.....

Yeah Fork Brace would do the trick - but she,d always be complaining about headaches. :wacko3: I`d just make a soundproof cupboard and lock her in that while ya go for a ride. As for the group question - I just never wash it.- Besides the Insurance companies value it way more than a replacement cost in oz. Doug
My friend in LA had his FJ stolen from right beside his R1.... yup thats right they took his FJ INSTEAD OF AN R1
damn theives.....
When traveling I use a disc lock and a kryptonite lock and cable. It might not be neccesarry but makes me sleep better. I cant imagine waking up to no ride home...

This turned out to be the case... Found the bike intact and parked with no apparent damage on Wed (it did have 3 parking tickets on it, so there for a few days). Owner got it back Friday and reports everything fine. He will also start to use the steering lock and a disk lock routinely, esp in Oakland.
Somewhat related note... in convincing myself not to sell him the '92, I bought a new battery for it (retail therapy). The old one had drained twice during the winter rebuilding project and, although it turned the starter fine, the bike was not starting as easily as the '90 did. In with a new battery and WOW! Now it is just like the '90... 3 clicks on choke and it fires immediately from cold. Hot start is just as quick with no cranking time to speak of. I know the forum has many posts about the wonder of a good battery in the FJ... add me to the list (and try a new battery if you are having slow starting with known good carbs).

Yep, the owner had no option other than to pay now or wait and pay more. He didn't realize they were charging him a storage fee and waited a day to fit into his schedule better. They said ignorance of the terms was his problem... pay me now :diablo:
Hopefully the sting will make him more cautious :dash2:
