Title: Another question about the aux. driving lights
Post by: delarbreavous on April 27, 2011, 04:01:18 PM
I just installed the engine bars on my baby and a question came up in my head,

Why hasn't anyone used the front bolts of the engine bars to install some aux. driving light??

Is it a safety reason?

Alain.......I did when I first installed my driving lights, but I didn't like the results. They were too low and the front guard blocks the centre of the road area of the light.

So I made up the aluminium strap that is bolted to the bottom of the main fairing, with foam rubber between the strap and the fairing to soak up the vibes, that lifts the lights to above the mudguard. There has been no clearance issues.

Cheers

I used the upper engine guard bolts to mount my driving lights.

I used a piece of 1/8'' flatbar and longer bolts with a lock washer and nylock nuts to hold the rear piece of flatbar in place.

I like the fact that the lights are up away from road debris.

i had a set of lights on the effy when i bought her.... they were mounted via an aluminium bracket bolted to the front brake callipers and hard wired to the headlight... from memory it was a split from the low beam  wire from the headlight loom.... the reason i removed them was because the wiring kept giving me dash bulb problems, and the globes kept blowing or breaking in the lights, maybe due to the bouncing round they were copping on the back roads.... dunno.... it was all decked out...... had led brake lamps on an aluminium strip that went on the back of my krauser racks and the head lights up front, had removed all that but thinking about putting the spotties back on ( in a different spot).... cos it'd be nice to see a bit more at night....  it did ( when i had em hooked up) make a big difference when flashing errant cagers who drive on high beam all the time.

Hi just been looking at the post about extra lights and noticed that your forks are not Fj one's. Do tell what they are.
