Hello everyone
Have been quiet for a few weeks but after many months at long last I have my 1990 FJ running. Took it for my first ride this morning and I just love it! a carb sync is all I think it needs now for the time being. Am going to ride and enjoy it for a couple of months and then service the suspension over winter plus a few other routine maintenance stuff such as wheel bearings etc. Anyway I've discovered a problem with the front brake switch. Rear brake lights up ok but nothing for the front. I've cleaned up the connections and multimeter tested the 2 wires which look ok but still no rear brake light so I'm now thinking the switch is dodgy. I saw a new switch on e bay for models up to 1988 and would appreciate your advice as to whether this switch would suit my 1990 fJ?
Regards
Mark

Mark, according to this: http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/yamaha/Y-J45-82503-01-00.html (http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/yamaha/Y-J45-82503-01-00.html)
the brake switch is the same for many bikes, including all FJs.

And silly cheap, too. Unfortunately for me, the ABS models use a slightly different switch and brake lever. I had to replace that switch for $55.00 just about two years ago.
Thanks Harvy thats a very useful link !
