so i was cleaning my carbs (they needed it badly) and i when i got to taking the float off, the float pivot pin seemed jammed, so i gave it a pretty good push and it finally came out of the metal piece it was wedged in...but the other other side was still holding onto it, completely broken off from the carb.
i cleaned it myself to avoid the cost of getting them repaired and cleaned at a shop because i just don't have the money, so SOMEBODY please tell me that this is an easy fix before i run this bike off a cliff due to the MASSIVE amount of problems its given me from the start :mad: and id rather not go get a new set from Randy because A) I dont have the money and B) those aren't set up for a bike earlier than 89'

It's OK. It will take some patient tinkering but you can fix it. Sounds like you're up to the task if you already took you carbs apart! There are posts on here about fixing with pics included, try searching, others have accidentally done the same thing. Drill and wire the post end back on, JB weld it, or I can send you a carb body/bodies with good posts.

Hey, I was in Jacksonville last week and I know for a fact that there are no cliffs in Florida. :-)
But, for the record, I'm currently running a set of '89+ carbs on my '85 with no problems. I even left the smalled diameter needle seats in. In fact, the fuel plumbing is simpler with only one feed. I had room to add a stainless steel quick disconnect. Makes getting the tank off much easier.

David or others in the know on carbs, perhaps you can help, I have what I believe are '84 carb bodies. I was hoping to send them to CarterC however I seem to remember the slides are different on '84's. Will this create a mismatch?

The carb body is the same, but the slides & emulsion tube are different. He will have to change over his part to the carb body you send to him if that is they was it goes.

You just need to make sure you get the right/proper carb body.

My comment about the right/proper carb was #1,2,3,or 4. They all have different linkage so in that aspect they are not interchangeable to each other.
All of the carb bodies are the same, they slide will interchange within any carb body regardless of year.
So, if you get the right/proper carb body all of your parts will slip right in and you will be on the way again.

JB Weld does not hold forever. It will soften and fail.
Found this out on a '86 I once had. A PO had broken the post and used JB weld.
As a previous poster suggested you can get it welded back on, which is the route I took. It takes a steady hand and a very pure aluminum rod to tack the post back on.
