Hey guys, I've got a quick question about my 92 FJ...It recently occured to me that I havn't checked my oil...ever...then I couldn't seem to find any kind of dip stick to check it with. Am I overlooking something? I guess the question is, how do I check my oil??

Right side of bike on the case cover theres a sight glass window.
Ok I found the glass window, but I'm not seeing anything through it. There doesn't look to be any oil on the other side of it...How high should it be filled to? Also, I opened the cap ontop of the case and whatever oil residue that is in there smells overwhelmingly like gasoline. Is this normal?

Gasoline smell in the oil means there is gas in the oil....Bad. Fix the gas in the oil problem first. Then when the bike is warm after a short ride put it up on the center stand and check oil level. Look for the level indicator (a line on either side of the sight glass). Add oil to reach the fill line. Check from time to time. I check after each ride/fill up, oil the chain as well.
Oil should not smell like gas.Window has a mark on it that you fill up too.I would drain the oil if it has gas in it.Its a common problem you should find a post on gas in engine oil.
Thanks guys. I guess normal 10w40 bike oil will work? Is there a reccomended weight for the FJ?

And it you did not know check the oil with the FJ standing upright on the wheels not the centerstand on level ground
How long have you been riding it this way? Gas in the oil is probably due to a stuck carb float. May or may not be an easy fix. Do you ride regularly?
I would also recommend changing the oil first. And the filter. Get thee a manual. Use any decent oil, you may want to go to 20w-50 for the summer.
I havn't gotten it tagged since I got it, so only short rides around the block. I just had the carbs torn down and cleaned completely, so if a float was stuck, it shouldn't be now. I just did an oil change and all seems to be well. I'd love to tag the bike and ride it, but I'd need someone to "overlook" a few things for inspection...
Where in MD are you? Who did the carbs? If they weren't regularly doing carbs, then a stuck float may be expected. Never know.
