Title: off moment
Post by: n8man1068 on April 21, 2009, 07:32:45 AM
So, I had my 1st negative experience yesterday. I'm currently in the ICU hooked up to all kinds of doodads, poisting via blackberry.
3 of us went for a ride. I was tracking the lead bike through a corner. Not sure how fast I was going, but not over 40. The corner waas nothing special. Plenty of space between all bikes. I was rounding out the corner, when it felt like the whole bike moved/shifted to the right, and put me in path of a ditch and post. I screamed 'oh shit!' As a warning to my girlfriend who was on the back. After that, I have no recolection until I woke up in an ambulance. Girlfriend landed on her back and rolled to her tummy. The leather jacket I had just gotten her held up, but she still has some roadrash on her tummy.
Apparently, I mightve stayed on the bike as I flipped. Either way, I was passed out face down for roughly a minute and a half. A cop came to the ER and gave me a reckless driving/failure to maintain control ticket, but I was pretty zooted when I signed, so I'll fight it.
Fj sounds totalled. I've been in the hospital since sunday afternoon. Damage to me:
Broken left foot, broke both collar bones, my right scapula, collapsed left lung. I've got a gnarly tube in my side that helps inflate/drain the lung.
I'm on a pain machine on a 6min cycle of daludin, I think it is.
I'll post more pics when I get out.

Sorry to hear about the off, sounds like there may have been something slippery like our old friend Diesel around.

Get well soon

Nate,

Not the kind of bike story I enjoy reading.  Get well soon and see if you can resurrect that FJ too.

Cheers,
Arnie

n8man1068,

I've looked through all of your old posts, but you never said your name.  All I can say is...DUDE!!!....that sucks!  I can't believe all of those injuries you got...wow.  Heal well, and keep us posted on your progress.  Being stuck in a hospital bed in pain with nothing to do really sucks...we're here for you pal!

Nate ,

that totally sucks , you are gonna be one hurt'in unit for a while while you heal up. :empathy2:

I had a crash on my fj a few years back and broke every rib on my right side punctured a lung in 2 places, collar bone and scapula broken .

screw the pills and get back on the automatic drip.

The pain eventually goes away but you will be a better forecaster than the weatherman.
it just takes time , hang in there .

Wow, using the BB in the ICU.  Dedicated, dude.  That's a good sign, anyways.  Sorry to hear about you and the bike.  Heal fast.

Got home friday night at 10ish. Girlfriend got home after midnight since there's only 1 24/7 pharmacy in our area. I'm really fortunate to have a girlfriend like her, I feel very blessed. She's been with me every day. Every day I'm amazed at the outpouring of support from friends. Every day tasks are difficult to impossible right now. In as much as I can't wait to get back on, I'm not sure I'd want to put my loved ones through this again. I'll pass that bridge when I get there though.

I'll post some pics when I can. Most were on my blackberry, which has been confiscated by my work. They sent someone to take it away from me. lol. Something about disability and not working.

The below link is very graphic. *WARNING*
This is the tube that was in my chest to drain out extra fluids or whatever from my collapsed lung:

Get well soon. I don't like to see anybody go through this.

What's up with the boss coming for your BB? They're always looking to put it to you, aren't they? I had an accident 3 years ago, on the job no less, and they came and got the phone, the keys, the works! You'll cope.

Not that I'm into the carnage, but it might be nice to see what's left of your ride...

This was after the pulled the bike down off of a mailbox. Not sure how it got up there.

This is where I went down. Still trying to figure out how I managed to do that.

Damage mostly looks like front plastics. Gauge cluster, headlight, tank has a massive dent (just put that on recently too, damnit) tires are still good, not sure if the handlebars are straight. It'll be at least another month until I look at it again, and figure out what I'm going to do. Insurance company found me at fault, so I'm sure my rates'll get jacked on anything more than a go-ped. I'm totally happy I put $10k worth of medical insurance  on my policy..totally worth the $400 a year increase in the rate. I'd recommend that for everyone, if not more.
