Title: Fathers and Sons___NON-FJ
Post by: Mark Olson on April 18, 2009, 03:50:19 PM
Fathers have a very profound influence in our lives as they teach us to grow up into men.

some of you may have noticed my absence in the posts of late, this was due to a family matter.

My father passed away on monday the 13th at the age of 74 and was laid to rest friday the 17th.

He went to the hospital for a minor surgery on march 5th and never left.

It has been a hard month to get through and he died peacefully monday night surrounded by family and loved ones.

I had a great relationship with my father and many memories of good times.

He was the one who taught me to ride motorcycles and enjoy life. we spent many hours working on motorcycles and cars and sharing life lessons.

one of my favorite memories is my dad test riding my 76 daytona 400 after we rebuilt the top end and jetted it and repacked the proto pipes. He went around the block once then pulled a wheelie down the entire street ,when he came back and parked it he said with a smile " I think it runs ok"

I will miss him greatly.

I will be at the west coast rally , and look forward to having a drink or two with all of you  :drinks:

Sorry to hear about your dad.

Some of the earliest memories I have of my dad are getting on the back of his green honda standard, cruising down the dirt road where we lived in alabama, and shooting pie tins with a shotgun. I was 3. I see my father in me more and more as I raise my own children now.

Mark,

I got your e-mail today, and was very saddened to hear the news of your Father.  I remember asking you how your Dad was doing a month ago, and you said he pulled through.  I've been consumed with $#%$#@ and life, but had been meaning to call and talk.  When we talked then, you also told me the story of his ridng the wheelie down your street and how cool it was.  I can can only imagine!  I'm very sorry; I know it's been tough for you and the family since his passing.  And it's OK, it's supposed to be tough.
Mark, my heart goes out to you brother!!!.  I'll call you tomorrow or Tuesday.

Peace!!
