What I have found that works is a 2 1/2 to 2 1/4 reducer and a 1998- 2001 R1 pipe and muffler. It is for the most part a bolt on.

All you need is the reducer like Kim said and the mid pipe and some exhaust clamps and you're all good.
The R1 pipes can be snagged on Ebay for waaaaay less than a Supertrapp also. Sounds real good too.

Keep in mind the perspective of the photo. The bikes leaned left and I have the camera aimed right at the muffler. Oh hell you were at the WCR '09. You saw it yourself.

Hey, you're right Jason. I remember now. I do not recall the muffler looking that big....Did it grow?
Question, that is a cool looking can but...... If you were to pop the end caps off, do you think that you could take a Saws-All and (carefully) hack about 12" off the barrel? Then rivet the end caps back on?

"sawsall" and "carefully" are mutually exclusive.

"Fine, make fun of how huge I am"

"Did it grow?"

Guys, whatever little undertones you want to have in your discussion, please take them elsewhere.... :wacko2:

True. The Sawzall, no matter how essential, is NOT your friend. I do indeed have the scars to prove it.
A band-saw or Porta-band would make quicker and probably make a more 'friendlier' cut for the cap to go back on.
As for weight it is already pretty damn light, although things can always get lighter.
The whole reason for replacing the Supertrapp is that the one that I had was obnoxiously harsh sounding and while trying to take it apart for a repack 2 of the long allen head bolts twisted right off and I felt the law of diminishing returns kicking in.
Did I mention that the R1 can was real cheap, and so am I.

Different angle...not sooo bad.

Just so I'm clear, did you use R1 can and collector on FJ headers?

You can use  the 98-01 R1 head pipe and can (they are one piece) on a Supertrapp header with a 2 1/2" to 2 1/4" reducer. I am not sure if it will lash up to any other header. And reverse thinking on that any slip on and headpipe for a 98-01 R1 (Should) fit. I have not tried it

The headers I owned were indeed Supertrapp, so I know this mod works.

I've done the same thing to mine. got tired of the noise.
Still runs like a good 'un.

No still looking still a little cold to ride. Today i'm going to pull the cam cover and check
the valve clearance and order a factory jet kit. And give it a good cleaning. Just finished
my KTM 620 SM a 4 month recon.
