Been ramblin on about my gear selector seal for a while... so went to dealer... yep yep gear selector seals... 7 bucks each...my ears should have pricked when he said "yeah there's 2 of 'em" but I wasnt thinking.... got em... got home... sidecover off, clutch slave off, e clip off , washer off,,,bit of swearing... seal out... shit. the 2 seals I have fit the shaft perfectly... with a 2-3 mm gap round the outside of the housing. Sigh. Off to SKF on Monday. Hopefully they would have them. from what I can get from the now mangled old seal... ID is 12.22 thickness is 5 and given that the width from lip seal inner to outer casing is 5mm im gathering (but I will get my verynears in there as well) that it will be a 22.22-.25 OD. pretty common I hope. :blush:

Verynears is probably much closer to correct if you use them as badly as I do. Sometimes they're "notevenfriggincloses" instead.
Yup verynears for close.... inside or outside micrometers for closer.... measuring stick for " somewhere round there"...I'm too old for calibrated eyeballs.
And last I checked..... I spelt it correctly.... its a slang term for vernier callipers.... something I do use every day... perhaps there needs to be a "context" check as well?

If your from the old school then you understood. I can read them old style calipers and micrometers..If not, then you lost em....Now its all dial and digital.....Just slang for better than a tape measure.....
Yeah tend to agree... answered a question a while ago about doing a pcd for 7 holes.... got lots of replies about "use CAD for this but i dont know if you can blah blah.."... just me and something I like about the way I do things... trying to do everything by brain..... formulas and how to with your hands not rely on something that wont work in a blackout. It strikes me that society today is pumping out a lot of "new" school tradesman who rely on programs and computers to do the work for them. Yes I get its easier, but.... when it comes to the crunch you have to know how to do these things by brain power.... no i cant use a slide rule... imperial measurements are pretty funky but I'm getting better.... would you believe in Australian TAFE they dont run blacksmithing courses anymore? apparently its a dead art..... but to cut long story short I like to do things the old fashioned way if you will, some say the hard way but .... well... yeah it is for the first few times... then its like riding a bike..:D... thats not to say i like blueing and bearing scraping... but i know i can and get at least 95% coverage :D.... go old school.!!!!

The ones he sold you are probably for the sidecover where the shaft goes through it.......there are 2 of those on there......

Had a bit of a think this morning , rang SKF, like i was thinking its a "Enginecycle" specific seal so had to go back to dealer.... then I remembered I had a parts list for the 1100!.... assuming they are the same , gave them the part number and i get it tomorrow. No stress just got to ride a little honda CBR 600 f to work today. o well. :good2:
yay fixed!! i learnt something today.... chuckles... i REALLY dont like the IRC tyres on the cbr600f. they suck. no feeling no front end feeling, just crap. but its not my bike so i dont have to ride it anymore . all good thus far.... till the next evil intermission from the gods of tempremental engine cycling BWAHAHAHAHAHA.
