Title: windshield gasket question
Post by: Big Blue on April 15, 2009, 06:17:19 PM
Hi all,

just picked up a new windshield and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on the best kind of adhesive to use to secure the black rubber edging on the top.  Maybe Crazy Glue?  Silicone?  Chewing gum?  Thoughts most appreciated, as I want this windshield to last another 20 years and don't want to edging to crack because I used the wrong stuff.

Thanks,

SG

Why put it back on? Super glue might mess up the plastic windscreen. I think the screen looks fine without the edging. I also think the screen looks more modern without the edging in place.... JMO

The edging won't make any difference to how long your windshield lasts.  What it does do is give you a visual of where the edge is and also round out the edge so you do less damage to yourself when you fly through it.  I've found a thin smear of silicone to be good to help hold it on.

Cheers,

I'll guarantee you that 99.5% of current FJs on the road lack that screen bead.

Don't sweat it.

Go nekkid.

Thanks all.

BTW, anyone up in the Northeast?  Live in CT and have only seen 1 FJ in the last 3 years.  Always looking to ride...

Thanks again.

Look up a guy called "Mazz" (David Mazzeferro)  He lives somewhere in CT.  Rides to somewhere called Marcus Dairy pretty often.  He's also moderator of the 'other' FJ list (well, one of them :-)
dlmazz@juno.com  should get you in touch.  Tell him I dobbed him in.

Cheers,
