I don't have a welder, that's first off. And I needed to replace my stem bearings. The dremel tool was my only friend.
This top race was fairly straight forward, but the lower was a real bitch. I didn't notice that there was a beveled edge further down and started going into the frame without knowing until it was too late.
Let this be a lesson to anyone else thinking of doing it this way, don't go too deep with that cut off tool!
Also, wear goggles, not safety glasses, because all that aluminum dust is now ALL up in my eyes!

Next time try this first.
Get your self a can of freeze spray and try to shrink those as much as possible
and punch out the one with a rod. The other may just pry out after you
freeze it.
oh I just caught the thread on this..so...nevermind..looks like your all set.
hit it with some heat then spray the race with freon . boing boing boing , thats the sound it makes as it rolls across the floor.

Great minds think alike eh ?
worked a treat on mine :good2:
tip....hold the can of freon upside down so it sprays the supercold liquid refrigerant (wear gloves)
KOokaloo!
deminimus maximus
is it not possible to use a pin punch? and drive the lower bearing half out from the top? :scratch_one-s_head:
No. No lip to catch the pin punch on. BTDT, no success. Grinder or welder only.
bugger!!! kinda pleased i bought my bearings and went.." here. fix it" :good2: you might be able to reclaim some of the bearing surface.... loctite quick steel press fit might do it. but im gathering youve already put it all back together...
You HVAC weenies, I hope you used R-12 so you could really fuck up the ozone layer...you big galoots
I'll think about you spraying that toxic shit while I'm at the dermatologist tomorrow getting shit cut off my white Irish skin....

Any can of compressed air will do the same thing. Upside down they shoot liquid, makes cooling stuff very easy.

Nahh, R-12 is too expensive to waste on that, use the new ozone friendly Puron.
You live in the desert , with all those a/c units running I bet you got your own hole in the ozone by now. :wacko3:
Haha...SPF 100
