Title: 2011/2012 Super Tenere
Post by: pdxfj on January 21, 2011, 07:44:41 PM
So, I got an e-mail from a local bike shop that got their hands on an imported Super Tenere saying it would be on display for today only.

Well.. I figured it was a good day to only work a half day and go have a look.  Not a bad bike at all.  Quite comfortable, upright riding position and even though it weighs as much as a FJ you wouldn't know it.  Sadly no test rides.. but was interesting seeing one in person.

Sorry for my crappy pics.  Trying to take pics while looking at the bike and trying to explain to the sales people that I didn't want to buy anything until I had my truck paid off was a bit to juggle.

Looks really nice, but aren't they following the Honda pricing model with it?

Man, I need to buy some more bike mags...I've never even heard of this thing!  Sure is ugly though - trying to be a BMW GS or a Suzuki V-Strom?  Either way: keep it away from me!  (my apologies to Nobby and Rock in advance)

£13,000 in the UK ($20,600) This would explain why I've never seen one. At least you get the panniers for this.

Yeah, the local Yamaha stealer has one in stock.  Only $21,500 ride away.
Now that's Aussie dollars so in US $ it'd be $21,400 approx.

Supposedly better in the dirt than a 1250GS - maybe, but you'll have to be pretty strong these are not lightweights.  Just way too much weight and way way too much $$ for me.

the whole adventure bike thing is a lot of show imo..excercise in appearing rugged with maybe 15% actual advantage over an FJ on a gravel road.

But they do kick ass as light sport tourers.. super comfortable, long distance gas tanks, carry a lot of crap, great for touring/camping platform plus they handle great in the mountains.  That's where I see this Tenere fitting in and it looks like it will be sweet.

While I agree with this Dan, it still shocks me that the big BM GS was, now get this, the number 1 selling bike, of all bikes sold in the UK last year (or the year before, -can't remember which). This surprised the hell out of me when I read it.

The Brits seem to love this thing, FWIW.

I agree with Bill,

most of the big Gs's never even see a gravel road but they do make great (comfortable) adventure tourers that handle extremely well in the mountains.

i dont think the price is out of line considering it comes with hard bags and plenty of electronic gadgetry.... still several thousand dollars less expensive than a big GS that comes with nothing but an (expensive) accessorie catalog for you to order from.

Maybe it's the cycling documentary Long Way Around  that still has the Brits excited.

The Beemer's GS is a nice bike but I still wish they'd have taken the KTM's--or better yet, one of each.  And maybe the Cameraman on a KLR 650.!?  Or the Super Tenere. ?  Talk about a good shootout.

the pic of the front makes it look like a angry transformer.

the review in cw had it as a torque monger twin.

$20,000?  :scratch_one-s_head: I guess I will be riding that 25 year old motorcycle a while longer.

Ah, but you'd only have to buy oneof these. Not one of each generation. And color.
