Folks-
I recently completed a mod to mount my GPS to my Gixxer. I had bought the basic Ram mount a while back, thinking the diameter of the ball was the correct one to simply snap my Garmin GPS to it. I realized I was wrong when it showed up... So I modified it to do so.
On the Ram Mount, I cut the original rubberized ball off and ground the underlying aluminum shaft down to a new mounting stub. I then cut the ball off a $5. (5 Below) GPS suction mount, and drilled a mounting hole into the Garmin ball that was the diameter of the new shaft. I epoxied the ball on with JB weld, and then wrapped a sleeve of PC-7 around it for a bit more support.
It sits about 2" off the top triple and swivels every which way. I think it turn out pretty well.
Thoughts?

Thoughts? You need an FJ to put that GPS on, only place you're going on that Gixxer is the chiropractor, you probably know the way already...
Dan,
Looks kinda vulgar without the Garmin in place..... Guess you got a male GSXR, so does it have more balls than the non GPS mounted Gixxers?
Just kidding around, nice job.

Dan,
I thought it was a great location and angle to see while riding. Is that a water proof GPS?

Thanks Travis. It is not waterproof, good point. I'll bring a supply of zip lock bags in the event of a deluge....

My Garmin isn't waterproof either, and I keep a dozen sandwich bags and twist ties in my tank bag in case of rain. That is a system which works surprisingly well.

That's why I love the ol' StreetPilot 2820... waterproof and A2DP Bluetooth.
Oh, and the clunky anti-theft design. The thief who stold my Glock left it behind.
I really should update the maps, though.

I find the best solution is to not ride in the rain, but every once in a while the weather man screws up. And I find myself getting wet.

I find myself getting wet.
I hear that happens after too many years riding dirt bikes.

If you ever ride to a Boone or Tellico FJ Rally, there's a pretty damned good chance of it.
