Post by: courtsdaddy on January 16, 2011, 11:01:53 AM
Can anyone tell me why some of the Fj1200 motors have a stamp next to the VIN and some do not?

ok i checked my 86 ... it has it too, probably just a casting mark. I know that some species of old kawasakis have a different stamp/mark to designate it was a Special ENGINE, as do (apparently) some variants of vintage ducati's. apologies for having a dig, guess you have to be a "hero member" or in the "in" crowd to have a sense of humour.

No big deal, I took it the wrong way.  I just thought maybe you guys knew what it was, funny that no one really knows!

Dave, what prompts the question?

I recall the first 100 1984 FJ1100's had factory blueprinted motors, so a motor# below 47M-000100 is a collectable.

Pat,

The guy I bought my parts bike from had several different years of the 1200 motor.  Some of the motors didn't have a stamp and the rest did!  He asked me if I knew why? So what better place than here to ask that!  Didn't think anything like a different motor or anything like that, but I can tell you that if from 86 to the end of the production some have it and some do not there is a reason.

If you look in the member pics here on this site you will see several of the motors do not have anything other than the number.  ????????????? Just had me curious.

Also I was trying to help him it out with this because going forward he will contact me or this site to sell the parts to us instead of the junk yard.

I know I know I know
The 1100's didn't get the tuning forks, the 1200's did.  :yahoo:

well actually I did ask someone, but he wasn't in the know.

in fact he had no clue about the stamp.

but after looking at my motors and a few of his, it was the logical assumption.

and no I may not be 100 percent sure but it does seem to be the pattern.
