Hi Folks,
Ive recently bought 2 FJ1200's I bought them quite cheap as they are in a bit of a sorry state, Theres a 93 model and an 87 model, I plan to fix up the 93 model back to "Standard" and the older one (Which i think looks better!) I'm hoping to make into a custom rat/chopper type bike. I think the older 87 bike looks far better, with the alloy swingarm, antidive forks, nicer wheels with polished rims etc. Don't laugh, but I'm planning on building the 87 bike with a zombie theme...lol,, thinking of building a zombie face onto the tank... :shok:

Welcome to the group - good to have another Scot on board. Looks like you have plenty to keep you busy during the winter. Not sure about the zombie rat bike idea - but each to his own. You can fit the alloy swinging arm from a '88-'90 to your '93.

Does either bike run? If so, zombie status achieved because they look to have been through hell and back. Kudos to you for taking on such a project, the folks on here will be very helpful, as they believe that every FJ is sacred and should be saved. Keep us updated with pics of the progress!

well the 87 bike is undercover in the meantime,
I have already stripped the 93 down to the frame, it was a bit of a struggle, a lot of stiff bolts, but, touchwood, i havent stripped or snapped any bolts so far. The swingarm bolt is seized solid, I have been dousing it in WD40 for days but its still solid. I had the engine running, cleaned the carbs and sorted out the wiring, I eventually got it running nice once i sorted the wiring to the coils.

I dont plan on fixing up the FJ to the same standard at the gt, but it should be a nice clean bike when done.

You'll get much better results with a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF as penetrating oil.

aye its all but finnished now, ive just got a new set of brake pads to put on the back, the only bits im missing are the 2 fairing plastics that go above the clocks, and bolt on ender the windshield.
nobody has a set they could sell me do they? its a 1993 3xw model if that helps?
Ive got a couple of other projects on the go just now as well, ive picked up a 1999 Honda dominator (NX650) theres 2 engines in boxes with it, hopefully have that on the road soon as well should be good at the summer!,,, then theres the old 1982 CB900f (well theres about 2 and a half bikes worth of bits!!!) which i plan to restore after the dominator. Im goni be busy!!
