Title: Fork and swing arm mods
Post by: bcguide on January 13, 2011, 09:30:38 AM
I have been reading though the info on these mods and am wondering

1 with the abilty to buy race tec parts for the forks what is the benifit of the yzf fork swap

2 is the rear swing arm mod just a way to get a 17'' wheel or does it provide handling

1. The YZF fork is a cartridge fork, as opposed to the stock fork... superior design.

2.  You can do a 17" rear wheel swap on the stock swingarm, losing +/- 6 lbs of unsprung weight.  You gain a very noticeable handling improvement (even I noticed it), and a much wider tire selection.

As Jeff Hoffman once said: "The worst cartridge fork is still far better than the best damper rod fork" - or something like that...

Also, with the YZF front end you get a 3.5" wide front rim for better tire support (oem:3.0") and a thicker 17mm front axle (oem:15mm).
[edit] but wait there's more!! You also get bigger 320mm front rotors (oem:295mm)....
[edit #2] With the YZF600 cartridge forks you also get the ability to fine tune your compression and rebound via external adjusters. A nice feature.
