Title: shinko tires
Post by: big r on January 06, 2011, 07:34:16 PM
Has anyone had anything to do with Shinko tires? Funds are rather short right now so i got a quote on a matched set for 225 dollars. Trying to find a set of tires for a reasonable price in Canada is pretty tough.

The 003 "Stealth" is a great dragracing tire, but positively worthless in the wet.  Can't say more about their other lines.

I've used some different styles of on/off road Shinko tires on my XS650-based scrambler.  The prices are certainly good and I really don't have any complaints about the quality.
Personally though, while I will run them on my dirt bikes and dual-sports that never see much more than 70mph, I would shy away from them for use on a fast and mighty bike like the FJ.  I've had tire failures at 60ish mph (not with Shinkos, though) that were pretty hairy.  I would not want to experience one at 140mph.
That's just my personal take on it, though.  They're probably just fine to use for general purpose riding.

If it's the 009 Ravens, buy 'em and ride the shit out of 'em...    :good2:

I had a set of the 005 advanced and they were crap. They were heavy, the sizing off, and the rubber became rock hard after the first few months. Only tire I have ever removed and trashcanned before getting even close to the wear bars. Even new trey were prone to slipping when riding hard. The Ravens seem popular with the ST crowd, but after my experience I won't run anything shinko again.

Someone in my area has done a lot of riding on Shinko tires and was written up lengthy reports.

Poke around www.pnwriders.com (http://www.pnwriders.com)

If you can't find it, let me know and I might be able to dig up the messages.

Also a thread on www.localriders.com (http://www.localriders.com), which was why I was willing to give 'em a try.

I like the 009 Ravens a lot, regardless of the price.

Sounds like a reasonable fella. Just the type to give sound advice. But he's got grip by God!
