Josh,

There are almost as many choices of silencers as there are members here.  All depends on what is/was available and at what price and looked or sounded good when the need to replace OEM was made.
Yes, you can certainly use silencers 'intended' for the XJRs.
With all these, if it is not expressly intended for the particular year FJ you have, you may need to also get or make a mid-pipe to join the silencer to the collector.  You may also need to make or modify the rear hanger as well.

Cheers,
Arnie

Usually the manufacturer of the end pipe will have the link pipe available, though not always.

An overlooked option is to ask at the local muffler shop, just specify that it has to be stainless.  Usually they like to do something a little different from the usual endless crap on cars. :)

Josh,

I found this site with various FJ silencer options.

http://www.echappementmoto.com/IMAGES/echappementmoto/YAMAHA/FJ%201100-1200/echappement%20moto%20YAMAHA%20FJ%201200.php (http://www.echappementmoto.com/IMAGES/echappementmoto/YAMAHA/FJ%201100-1200/echappement%20moto%20YAMAHA%20FJ%201200.php)

I had a complete MOTAD system on my old FJ the various parts of which (ie downpipes/collector/silencers) were compatible with the original parts. On my new FJ I have a pair of black MIVV silencers that look like original and fit onto the Yamaha collector box. Both of these are as quiet as the original equipment.

Here is another interesting option from the UK:

The pipework uses the original header pipes, and replaces the collector and cans.

I asked this question:

Dear sandybikespares,

Hi folks.....just wondering if this system is available without the can?

ie. just the 4-1 part of the system?

and their response:

Hi, The pipework is £149.99, many thanks

Yes, I got the collector/silencer combo (see my post in this section titled "4into1 exhaust") and can heartily recommend it. Very very good!

I've done a 4:1 using a Supertrapp head pipe and grafted a YZF1000 titanium muffler.
Makes the power of a header without the noise.
I've found that stealth can be a good thing when your flying low.

Yeah, I had XJR 1200/1300 mufflers on one of my FJ's,(A 1989 3CV)there's a write up and all that somewhere either here or over on the other place, fucked if I know where but.
They looked pretty good and sounded great once they had been opened up a bit.
