I need to get a new set of sprocket+chain. My budget is LIMITED, but I don`t want no accidents either... It says it fits 84-85 1100`s. Mine is an 86. I asked the seller if it would fit, here is his honest answer:
I'm honestly not sure if it will work because I don't have anything to compare these sprockets to. If it helps, you can view diagrams with measurements for these sprockets at the manufacturer's site below.

This should work on your 86. I am not 100% but I think that all the FJ1200's use the same sprocket assy. The chain just has to have the right amount of links, but make sure that you get the same size sprockets as stock, as in tooth count. Otherwise, it will change your gearing. JT makes a real nice sprocket, but can not speak for the chain. Make sure that you get steel sprockets. And call Jawzy's and make sure that they are shipping you what you are asking for. They will also appreciate the call

As for the masterlink, I whole heartedly recommend getting it riveted on instead of a clip job. Otherwise (and this happened to me :dash2:) the link may fall off and the chain could jam up in the counter sprocket area causing damage to the engine case, bend the clutch actuator rod and oil filter assembly. Then you got a mess.

Just to get it straight - mine is an 1100 - the chain and sprocket are probably the same as on the 1200 ?

I know - that`s the problem. It`s a 1100 for sure, but maybe it was registered first time in 86? ...and is an 85? I live in Norway,English isn`t my native language, so I`m having trouble understanding some of the info I find when searhing the internet...

The link I got said it was a conversion kit - does that mean that it`s different from the original kit, but works better?

i think conversion refers to the fact that they're not matching the original sprocket sizes. 17/44 is pretty stiff gearing, should make wheelies easier :)
I wouldn't get it, personally. Get a good, high quality chain, not a "bikemaster" thing. Yes, they cost, but they will last a ton longer and stay together better.
My FJ has broken a chain on several occasions, never at the master link. That stopped when I stopped buying cheap garbage chains.

This will convert the OEM 530 chain to a 520. Sprocket sizes are 16/45. My 90 has a 40 tooth sprocket, which is stock for that year. I think, but not sure I have a 17 tooth on the countershaft.
And +1 on a quality chain, but if your budget can't handle it, go to a local shop and ask. If the chain blows up on you, at least you have someone to talk to about it, not an internet site.

I was looking at the first link, 17/44 with a 530 chain.
Second link is a 16/45 with 520 chain. That's a lot, lot, lot of gearing. Expect easy second gear wheelies and a rather crap top speed, with a billion revs going down the road. Looks like an FJ600 kit, honestly. The 520 chain is a questionable brand (IMO) and has a fairly low rated strength. I wouldn't use any portion of that kit in a million years on an FJ.
Pay the money the first time, and get good parts right up front. Been there, tried to cheap out, and ended up trailering the bike home with broken engine cases. Not doing it again.

Just my opinion, but get a couple of JT Steel Sprockets from the cheapest place you can find on the internet. Then go have your local guy fit them with a new chain. It would be less expensive in the long run. Again, In my opinion.

Agree 100%, It's really just not worth it to go cheap on unknown brands. There's a reason they are less money. (And there is always a butt) A brand name part from any reliable source at below retail, I'd buy it.
