Hi all :good2:
Already posted in the "Hello" Section so thought I would show you some pictures of my FJ (well parts of it anyway :shok: )
This is what she looks like at the moment:
She is getting there, hope to have her all done and back on the road by March ready for the "Slightly" better weather :sarcastic:
If you would like to see the before photo's just say
Love the yellow, you Brits just don't get out of the house enough, too much mod madness! A before pic would be great, but an after would be the best!
Doug
welcome to the group! :good2:

This is what she looked like the day I picked her up last year (2009)

Hopefully she will look something like this when I am done:
(I know its a FJ1100 but couldn't find a FJ1200 outline)

The biggest change will be this:

Twin headlight fairing :yahoo:
Ooo, I likes the twin headlight. Is that an insert or the whole fairing?
might help...... there was an article in classic racer.... comparison on the fj 1100 to the xjr 1300..... similiar ideal to your yellow fella your doing there......hang on....ok got the mag...." classic motorcycle mechanics",july issue, has a pic of a road legal Kenny Roberts replica TZ 750 on the cover.... but where your fj is yellow all over the one in the mag is yellow tank, yellow lower fairing/black top yellow black side gaurds and black belly pan, white yammyheha lettering, arrow 2 into 1 exhaust.... like the twin headlight...... reminds me of a laverda V6!!!! dribble dribble dribble :good2:

Can anyone tell me WHY Yamaha won't sell the XJR here in the US?? Are we really so sad that we'll only buy R6's and Raiders?
Probably 'cause few to none of the US dealers felt it would sell here.... I've had a couple semi-heated discussions with my favorite Yam store owner about this. Just not enough interest, according to him... :nea:
I'd buy one :good2:
it was interesting to read that the only thing that doesnt swap over from xj to fj is the barrells ( jugs pots cylinders call 'em what u want) but thety can be machined to fit.... but yeah lotsa xjr's over here..... and yes they are very very very nice!!!!
I would buy one
Nice. Good picture Stuart.

Look what happened with your test ride of Nobby's BMW- now you've got a herd of dirt bikes!
The XJR is popular here in the UK. Its been on sale since 1995 and is still a current model. There are lots for sale mostly good condition, low mileage and reasonably priced. I'd consider one to use for shorter runs and keep my FJ for touring.
Stuart
XJR wouldn't sell for crap in the US, shame really.
Love the matching yellow caps on the carbs, but you really need a yellow spring on that shock. Should be a pretty cool looking machine when you're done!
:hi:I'd buy two :flag_of_truce:
Looks like your getting right to it, what kind of shock is that?

Its a Hagon :good2:
Tried to get it with a yellow spring but the guy at the shop just looked at me a little strange
I would of thought that you guy's would know about this so apologies if I am going over old ground here.
The peg hangers on the old girl were looking very bad and I just don't / didn't have the time to clean them up:
A friend of mine pointed me in the direction of a company that does "Areomax" coating
Looked good so thought I would give it a try and see what they looked like.
This is how they came back to me:

Looks like chrome but its a powder coating :good2:
They look great on the FJ and once she is out of the shed I will take some better pictures :good:

Was going to change the 1st post but unable to :nea:
So though you might like to see more info on the old girl :sorry:
On the Sat morning I decided that it was time to do a few repairs to the old girl as she was looking very tired and worn:
I got a bit carried away with the strip down and by 4pm....................
Piles of parts all over the place as well, but soon had everything boxed and put away.
One of the major issues I had was the main support bolt that runs right across the front of the engine.
The ally bush was badly corroded and stuck solid
(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u242/DD-FJR/FJ1200/FJ12003CV0033.jpg)
After getting the engine out of the frame and into the shed onto the bench I started to work on trying to get it out
1st of all cutting the bolt and sleeve :cray:
The metal sleeve was rusted solid to the bolt
(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u242/DD-FJR/FJ1200/FJ1200Engine005.jpg)
Then the ally bush had to come out
(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u242/DD-FJR/FJ1200/FJ1200Engine009.jpg)
Stitch drilling all the way around the remainder of the bolt
(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u242/DD-FJR/FJ1200/FJ1200Engine007.jpg)
took just over 3 hours but she came out :good2:
All that was left
(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u242/DD-FJR/FJ1200/FJ1200Engine021.jpg)
After some searching I got hold of a brand new bush
(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u242/DD-FJR/FJ1200/FJ1200002-1.jpg)
The engine was running great so I couldn't see the point in stripping her down, a very good clean and paint was all that was needed.

Had some yellow paint so thought why not
The discs got the same treatment
(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u242/DD-FJR/FJ1200/FJ1200006.jpg)
After talking with a few people, I decided to go for the Barnett conversion:
The main suspension joint had a total rebuild as all of the needle bearings where solid :cray:
The forks have been a total rebuild with brand new fork tubes and all of the internals as well
(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u242/DD-FJR/FJ1200/FJNewForks003.jpg)
Things went fairly well from there and we got the engine back in the frame and fitted new Headers, Collection box & 10 Row oil cooler
(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u242/DD-FJR/FJ1200/FJ006.jpg)
Handle Bars went back on with ZZR Master Clutch & Brake
(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u242/DD-FJR/FJ1200/FJ003.jpg)
Swing Arm, shock etc all fitted
(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u242/DD-FJR/FJ1200/FJ006-1.jpg)
Front wheel in along with Blue Spot Callipers and new S/Steel hoses (Yellow of course :good: )
Wiring loom is going in now along with the back wheel, I am just waiting on the Rear Calliper Carrier to arrive.
The fairing is on its way (approx 7 to 10 days) then all the plastics go off for painting
The design has changed slightly from the picture I posted before, looks a little better IMHO
Sorry the photo's are not that good, the rebuild is being done in a fairly small shed at the bottom of my Garden (No Garage) :negative:
But she is getting there:
WOW. That is a lot of work! It looks like they get run in the salt in the UK? Keep up the amazing work...
Doug
Thanks Doug :i_am_so_happy:
Yes, they dump salt on the roads over here by the truck load as soon as it starts getting cold :shok:
Once complete she should last a few more years before the next rebuild :drinks:
Managed to get a lot done today :good2:
