They are not a straight wound spring but a progressive type, they are 19 inches in length overall.
Shaun.
When I got my forks apart I have the same spring a 19" progressive wound spring.

My bike is an 86 and I have no spacers above the springs. I looked a the files section; http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=1983.0 (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=1983.0) and note the spring should be 15+".
Any thoughts? I know Rich posted the stock spring was progressive wound: did any aftermarket make a progressive wound, longer spring?
After pulling it down and finding the right fork only held a few ounces of oil, I suspect the new seals and proper oil level will make it ride much better.

That looks like a stock spring to me. Two distinct rates visible in the coils.
