Thanks for the push Marsh, I have been thinking about starting a thread to discuss the north east rally. But since you started one I will hijack it. :pardon:
The only Information about the North East Rally is "there is no Information".
Now that winter is settling in, we have plenty of time to talk about it though............
Who's up for another North East FJ rally?
(popcorn)
Count me in!
I'd be happy to make it an international rally again... I'm in. Mid July, right?
Cool! It looks like this rally is officially happening again! Don't forget to sign up via the form guys: http://www.fjrally.com/11NER.html (http://www.fjrally.com/11NER.html)
I'm in
But not on that date, so don't be getting time off yet.

That's fine with me, I know last year the middle of the summer was actually a little more inconvenient for some of the guys.
we have a few other things to work out too, same place? same ride?
is everyone happy with the loops we ran? do we want to repeat them?
there was 4 guys that rode 1 day last year. so they missed one loop, if we repeat they could catch the other loop this year.
Or we add a day and make a 3rd loop?
I'm up for going again. After thousands of miles in the saddle after last years rally I'm looking forward to those roads again. It would be a shame for people to miss the highlights of last years loops.Riding along side the river still replays in my head, even though the pace was slowed buy a pack of touring bikes.
We talked about more upscale accommodation for the next one,but I vote for a camp ground again. Now that I know the train isn't going to hit my tent,I wouldn't mind the same place again.I will be more prepared this time. I may take a few days more up there either before or after the weekend. Two days seems too short now.
The temps were on the high side, but I still think it's a good time of the year for northern NH.Who knows what next summer will be like.

You summed up my thoughts pretty good here.
it would save us time and money to keep it in West Bethel.

Are you saying the rally needs to be longer? :scratch_one-s_head:
who's going to volunteer to ride point this year? I suck at keeping a pace, unless you don't mind doing 90 in that 25 zone again. (popcorn)
I thought your pace was just fine until that Volvo turned left in front of you. Let's get a new to the rally rider and stick 'em on the pole position. Unfortunately I am "directionally challenged" and have to pull over and consult my quaint map every 15 minutes or 30 miles, whichever comes first. I devote all my attention to riding, I can't be bothered with thinking ahead to where I might be going. I call it the hurry up and wait method.

Sounds like you would rather I get the speeding ticket for you, sweep the road so you can get your 145mph shake down in.

Yes.
What are you worried about? All those red and whites look the same to Johnny Law, just keep it pinned and they'll catch Bob instead. As far as the shakedown, if I don't have my saddlebags of death on, I can probably keep up better, I've changed from 16/42 to 18/38. Gotta save fuel for the 3 days of riding!
I think with a early start we could do the whole of last years route in a day at last years pace. The trip up Mount Washington would kill our average though. Then the next two days we could rerun the route at a pace that I could actually focus on something other than the pavement directly in front of me.....
I'm really only kidding. But there was a few things that went wizzing by that i would like to check out.I never felt pressured to keep that pace, and I truly enjoyed it.The bike did have a few bugs that still hadn't been worked out ,and that was in the back of my mind all weekend. The bike will be a lot more refined this season.
Three days might give some more one day riders a chance to do some of the route.

Hot it was that day. Since it's illegal to stand on you bike in NH (but OK to skip the helmet, live free and die?), I had to cool off the hot bits somehow. Was that a protected drinking water supply? I need a mesh jacket if it's going to be in the 90's this year.

How do you feel about riding to Kingston on Thursday night and spending the night at my house. Then Friday morning we could take the ferries from Kingston to Cape Vincent and ride up the St. Lawrence state side before cutting over to Maine? I've driven the 401 so many times, a change of scenery would be nice. Added bonus... no police on Wolfe Island.
I called and reserved the campsite today, Fri. Sat. and Sun. night. I wouldn't mind a longer rally but I think we should wait till we get a larger showing.
The guys staying on the group site don't have to check in or reserve a spot just drive in all the way to the back :drinks:

Not bad, but NOTHING compared to the inferno I witnessed the last night of the 2006 ECSR. Flames were no less than 50' in the air, and the diameter of this beast had to be perhaps 40' or so. I do not gather this is out of the ordinary, either.
Funny little story: late 2005 I was considering attending the '06 ECSR. I marshaled a couple of buds (Eric and Phillip -for those of you that remember) to take on the trek with me and I called down to make reservations at the KOA. So, I ask the owner, not having
actually met any of these lunatics before, "are these guys OK?"
She replied "huh?"
I reply "you know, no satanic rituals or anything crazy like that?"
She replies: "naaa, these boys are alright, their
fires are a bit bigger than they need to be, but they're alright..."
Sure enough, she was dead on the money.

So I would be there Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday night go home Monday morning. That is my plan as of now anyway

I've got a hitch on the turbo Civic to haul my crap up to Bethal. I plan on staying up there for few days this time. Last year it was a little chaotic getting rolling in the mourning. I like a little breakfast, but a restaurant eats up some nice riding time. This year I will have the ability to make some when I get up. I will undoubtedly have some extra if anyone whats to join me. The bike is under control,so I have time to work on the trip details this year. I'm looking forward to some nice riding.

Are you bringing a grill?
I know the restaurant thing was time consuming, as was waiting for everyone to get ready to leave. We did have enough time to ride the whole loop though, and didn't finish too late in the evening. So you didn't loose any riding time. It seems like everyone wanted at least a little something in the morning to eat.
The restaurant was pretty busy first thing, but did have good prices and good food. I can bring some food with me too, if there is a way to cook it. Someone needs to bring a coffee maker too.
I plan on bringing a two burner gas stove, and some frying pans.I'm thinking scrambled eggs, ham, maybe steak, and some biscuits.I like bacon but it is a bit of a hassle. That should handle breakfast.
For dinner on Saturday I'm thinking Pat's pizza. I grew up in Orono,Me, the home of Pat's.There is one in Bethal,I ate there on my way home last year. I'd take a drive to pick some up when we get back from Saturdays ride.It seems to go very well with adult beverages...
That's as far as I have thought so far. Please speak up with any other ideas or comments. I'm not a coffee drinker, so you guys will need to deal with that.

Ah jeez Harvy, I thought you were coming to the NE Rally. Buy you a beer?
Can't make it this year Paul, but wanted to make sure some Canadian pints were consumed. Hopefully next year for me... Travis, my current favourite is Sleeman Cream Ale. There's just so much to choose from so I usually stick with a few that are tried and true. Draught on the other hand...well now that's another story!! :drinks:

Quotethere is a fine line between camp fire and forest fire. What we lack in fire we make up for in beer.
...Please someone bring some Canadian beer! eh
How about some Crown Royal. That is my favorite Whiskey but it is pricey here in NY. Can't wait to me the newbies
Ah yes you can't beat Crown Royal, especially after a long day of riding :good:

This is the reason I am making sure I bring some food this year.I was drinking Crown Royal sours last year with out any food. After standing up I started thinking that maybe crawling would be a more efficient way of getting to my tent. The fine Cabot cheese helped but it just wasn't quite enough....
Crown Royal and sour mix is on the list for this year also.
I'm trying to figure out a way to bring my grill, and then we can cook up burgers and dogs :good:
I think I scored this years firewood :good2: Won't be long now

I thought we did, that big black thing, yours or my pu.
You know two day ride, you don't want to wear one out.
Grill, wood, beer all one trip doesn't get better than that, plus a chase vehicle for getting more beer and food.

I thought we were showing up early Friday and going for a private ride on some secret windy roads?
My hope is to get there mid day Friday in time to unpack and get an afternoon ride.I'm keeping Monday open if the weather holds.I'm probably crazy thinking we will get four good days in a row this year, but you never know.
If you guys want a map of the loops we will be riding, you should print them before leaving for the rally.
I probably won't be printing any this year.

Something like this, 122 miles with some really tight windy seasonal roads, sounds like fun

Too far!
Nah man, it's far out! You could win the coveted "most distant traveler" custom flattened Bud can kickstand coaster.
Doug
Due to the over whelming amount of Bud cans we may have to cancel the Bud can kickstand coaster and replace it with the Bud Mustang

That's not a real '65 GT350R, it's got a stock passenger side mirror. I say fake, although the light weight could really up the performance.
Rally? I'm looking for a mod that I can still be performing while en route to Bethel, other than that I'm surprisingly prepared.
Ok so I have Saturday off. So that means I will be leaving Queensbury NY after work Friday at 6pm. So my arrival time should be 11 or 12pm. Then set up camp and get a couple hours sleep so I can ride with the group Saturday. So keep the fire going for me Friday. I hope I don't wake anyone when I arrive if I do I'm sorry.

I guess I will bring my grill, so we will be able to cook burgers and dogs.
Only 2 more weekends left to get everything ready though and then (http://www.unrealspawnboard.com/Smileys/UNREAL/sign_partytime.gif) .
The good news I picked up the Firewood...........The bad news, I don't think we can do the 2 fire pits this year :pardon:
I didn't get a chance to ride any of the loops this year, Can't be much more bumpy than last year though.
OH yes they can Travis.
I went thru Bethel today with the wife real rough on some roads major roads are good but :boredom:
But should be great even though.

So... will be travelling below 'jail time' speeds this year?
:nea: :unknown:  :sorry:
I doubt it, I guess we will just have to see. Maybe someone else can lead? :sarcastic:

If anyone coming to the NE Rally has an extra front/left (sitting on bike) signal light cover for an 86 FJ1200 I will gladly buy it from you as mine blew off on the highway last week.
See you there!
I wonder if it will rain this weekend, ohh was I supposed to not mention the weather?

Looks like it is going to be just like last year, hot humid sunny on the weekend with rain on Friday. :good:
Well after riding/camping at Oxford plains speedway (actually camped at Two Lakes down the road) this last weekend I have decided to pack up the mule again and ride it to Bethel Friday.I have bought a smaller tent, big tank bag, and a summer sleeping bag.I think I can get everything on the bike for this weekend.I still plan on getting to the campsite around noon or one.If the weather looks good I should be up for a loop before dinner.
Looking forward to another fun weekend
Ok I got the bike all loaded up and ready to roll. I'll be heading to Maine Friday night after I get out of work at 6pm. I should arrive between 11pm and midnight. Hopefully some of you will still be up BSing. The weather is looking great for the weekend. :good2:
