Title: Hello, everybody!
Post by: alfred on November 12, 2010, 10:26:48 AM
I`ve just parked my new (to me) 1986 FJ1100. It started snowing yesterday here in Norway, so I`ll just have to wait until the end of march before I can take her out again. I bought the bike in june, and managed to go about 2200 km before it was the end of the season. Only issues so far has been a messed up clutch slave (got a rep. kit the other day), and a leaking fork. I`m no mechanic, but I plan to fix this myself, thanks to this great forum! :drinks:

Welcome to the greatest FJ site on the planet, Alfred.   :hi:
sounds like you have a few months to get it all fixed up.

But don't wait too long, spring will be here before you know it.  :drinks:

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the site! If you read enough material here, you'll be a mechanic before you know it! Lots of great info and people here!

Thank you all! My main fairing has several cracks, one or more of the previous owners has tried to fix it with what looks like a mix of melted plastic and some black, soft stuff that looks like silicone or something....
I`m afraid that if I remove the fairing, it will just fall apart into god knows how many pieces, so my question is:
If I remove it, is it possible to keep the instrument panel in it`s place, and is it possible to fit a big round headlight at about the same height as the the original light used to be ? I`ve seen a few FJ streetfighters with twin headlights, but I don`t think that looks good. I`d like a more classic looking front. I`d love to see a photo of what it would look like, and maybe some tips on how to do this correct ?
Thanks again!

Sounds like you already developed a case of the modits! I got it pretty bad right from the start too... Oh well... I've learned the best way to get my questions answered is to first search the forum, and if I find nothing, post in the correct section (the modification section would be appropriate for this post.)

Sounds like the stuff you are describing on your fairing is JB weld? I looks like shiny hard dark grey silicon? I have used it on several small repairs to the body work on my bike, and it works pretty well if it is done right. Good luck on the headlight modification!
