If you have time, read the story below. It might help you out of some tickets.
One thing I am getting sick of is patrolmen pulling me over on a PERCEPTION of speeding - no radar, no pacing. A couple years ago I was riding a friend's '04 GSX-R 1000. I was going home after work and was merging onto the highway. I was probably accelerating rapidly prior to the merge. Anyway, about 4 miles later I was traveling at 65 MPH in the middle lane and was just passed by 2 cars. Then I heard the siren and saw the lights in my mirrors. I was SURE he wasn't coming after me, so I moved to the right, then he pulled in behind me. After I pulled over, the cop came up to me and physically knocked on my helmet (like a door) and said, "Take that thing off!" I knew then it was not going to be good. He proceeded to tell me how fast it APPEARED that I was going. Plus he accused me of cutting across 3 lanes of traffic - which I NEVER do, and I told him that. He threatened to arrest me, but he gave me two tickets. One for 80 in a 60, the other for improper lane change. When I got home, I called a lawyer and he told me to request all of the info the Highway Patrol will be using against me in court. I went to their office and requested all of this info, PLUS I ordered a copy of the cop's dash cam on DVD. They will ask if you will be using it in court. Check yes. After the DVD arrived in the mail, I watched it and noticed that when the Highway Patrolman initially saw me, he had someone else pulled over on the OPPOSITE SIDE of the freeway (on the off-ramp) facing south. I was going north. He was not even in his car. He jumps in, goes AGAINST traffic on the bridge over the freeway, code 3, then onto the on-ramp where I was a minute or so ago. He chased me down and instantly pulled me over. The documents I received claimed he paced me for 4 miles at 80 MPH plus the improper lane change. So I gave the officer a summons to my court hearing. In Washington, you can't give an officer a summons less than 14 days prior to the court date. So I waited until 15 days prior and dropped the summons (to make sure the officer schedules all his appointments and vacation - if he doesn't show, you walk free). On my day in court the officer didn't show, and the judge asked if I had any other comments. I told him I am tired of getting pulled over on a PERCEPTION without proof, and the officer just calls it "pacing" and you can't prove otherwise. I was let go.
In your defense, always use cold, hard facts. Do your homework. I even used the police dash cam clock and distance to figure out my average speed.
Hope this info helps someone else out of a jam. :hi:

Who polices the police? We Do!
Keep them on their toes and don't let them walk all over you just because they have a badge!
Oregon has a "you get a ticket, you pay" law. So it's almost impossible to get anything dismissed.
If you decide to go to court, your first appearance is to plead not guilty so you can have your day in court. Then you are given a date to appear again that works best for the officer.
When you arrive you discover that there are many other people who all had tickets written by the same officer as you. This is done so it is worth the officer's time to appear in court. Judge hears the case, explains that you are found guilty and with the "law" he can only give you a slight discount on the fine. Although if you were written up while in a "school" zone your fine is automatically doubled and no discount applies.
A number of people before me all were written tickets for speeding in front of a Church which is considered a school zone, but no signs were posted anywhere warning of the school zone. Even though several people brought pictures and maps to aid their case, the judge basically said "tough shit". Imagine having the judge pass down a $1600+ fine for going 5mph over in said "school zone".

I didn't know that the Toyota 'unintended acceleration' issue also occurred in Reverse...

He DID use the turn signal however. I love that rev limiter in gear. What the hell was that guy on, you think he was freakin' when he was "speeding away" and the cop is at his window yelling "turn the car off!"
