Title: Cafe Racer Project
Post by: FJ Aussie on November 04, 2010, 05:54:48 AM
Hello all,

Yes have decided to turn our 89 model fj1200 into a Cafe Racer project. Will get some piccies soon with the progress. Was wondering though about the clip ons.First to find out what the diameter is exactly of the front suspension and if anyone has bought these drop bars and where did they get them from?

Thanks in advance Pete

your 89 tubes are 41mm and you can use the clip ons from a 87-88 fzr 1000. they will go under the top triple.

Cheers For the info. Does that mean if I use the fzr gear can I still you all the FJ1200 throttle, blinker etc setup or go the way of FZr 1000?

May be different connectors or something, but everything should interchange, well, interchangably :)  The bars will be a standard 7/8" size, mirror mounts aren't on the bars on the 89 model, but the switchgear should work without a hitch.

Length could be a problem, but shouldn't be.  And the bar ends may or may not fit (might have to swap to FZR ones).  Clearance at the tank will be the bigger problem, if you're making a different tank to fit nearly anything that fits a 41mm fork would work.  I've even seen tiny vespa switchgear used on cafe bikes, makes for a subtle touch.
