Title: Inexpensive tall windscreen solution
Post by: Ride on October 22, 2010, 05:59:50 PM
New here and thought i would add something. I recently got a minty FJ1200 (4700 miles) and the first thing I noticed was lack of wind protection especially over 70 mph. Was in a Cycle Gear getting dirt bike stuff when i saw some double bubble type windscreens on sale as they had ratty packaging. Anyway I made a guess and got one for a GSXR for $27. To my surprise when i got home the two middle bolts lined up perfectly with the sturdy stock mounts. I put a strip of weather stripping so it was not plastic to plastic and bolted it up. then drilled the stock wind screen for the other 4 bolts. Fits well and looks stock or better. Several of my freinds did not even notice until I pointed it out. Not the ultimate protection but quite a bit more than stock.

BTW thats a car Garmin GPS i got of eBay for $48 shipped to my house and it works GREAT. Has been holding up very well. For $48 I thought i would give it a try.

Saw it on CL for $1000!!!!! Was not running but clean and unmolested. Sat in the corner of a shop full of toys for many years. Cleaned the carbs and installed the new jets from the Dynojet kit and it runs PERFECT. Stoked at the deal for sure.

At this point i am liking it as is. I am semi mellow on the street. I get my speed / thrills on in the dirt.

Ride,

A number of us have found that *lowering* the lip of the shield reduces buffeting. Doesn't do much for "protection", though.

I used a stock-pot lid to scribe a semi-circular line on my aftermarket Zero Gravity shield (anything about 12 inches in diameter would do), then cut it with a Roto-Zip and polished the edge. Worked pretty well.

Good to know. This mod did what I needed though. Wind now hits me mid faceshield instead of under the chin which would try to remove my helmet and inflate my jacket at anything over 60-65.

Indeed it seems that helemt whant to fly away due to poor protection.

How about this one? Any experience with it?
