Title: Anyone else have this trouble with DDM HID kit
Post by: Flynt on October 17, 2010, 11:19:55 AM
Mine turns on about 1/2 of the time I start the bike.  I have not investigated thoroughly, but half the time its perfect (almost, more below)...  other half I pull up to a cage and see no reflection from HL?  Cycle the ignition and it comes back on.  Not sure what to make of this?

One other thing I've noticed is my light "vibrates" at 2500-3000 RPM.  Nothing really bad and you don't notice on the street.  I see it on my garage door when returning from a ride.  I can live with it, but wonder if anybody else has found similar behaviors with their HID kit.  I installed the hi/lo 55W kit with 5000K bulb.

the occasional misfiring of the ballast/ bulbs is why i chose HID driving lights Vs HID headlight.

IMO a Halogen bulb in the primary position is dependable right up to the point of failure.

The light is so nice when it works though...  Oh well, I just check that it is on before starting.  Just another habit.

Frank,

I was reading about the HID systems and came across this post from Garth in another thread;

After a few days the problem went away.  It fires consistently now and is WAY (WAY!) better than the stock POS.

Who'd a thunk? HID Lights, need to 'bed-in'....
