I bought the FJ this spring with used Metzlers and put another 3500 miles on them, and they are shot.
The rear is smooth with cords starting to show, and cupped really bad.
The front is also going because I'm switching to a set of Avon radials...! I can't wait to see feel the difference!
The day is going to be in the 80s today and tomorrow and another ride to the Mississippi is looking pretty good!

I'm getting the same tires on today... coming off some old Dunlops that are pretty hard (but are still fun to ride on), so I'm pretty psyched as well to feel the difference. The reviews on the Avons are pretty promising.

Mine are getting put on today and I will be off on another ride tommorrow to try them out!
I can't wait, this is going to change the feel of the bike for the better!

I know you know and everyone else knows but I thought I'd be a mother hen here and remind folks to take it easy on those new skins for a bit. I combined my new tires with new pavement for an unexpected detour over the double yellow despite having read several cautions about it. Draggin' pegs doesn't look so cool when there's an RV oncoming. Enjoy the new rubber with moderation!

Good advice.
Before handing the new tires over to the guys at the shop, I pulled all the stickers of and wiped the tread down with lacquer thinner.
At my age, draggin pegs isn't something I go outa my way to do.

Put about 100mi on them yesterday (carefully) and wore through the mold release. These tires are VERY different than what I had. I think the more rounded shape of the front especially really makes the bike turn-in easier and feel much more nimble... I LIKE IT! I'm going to do a longer ride today and try to eat into the chicken strips a little more.
So in the past week she's gotten HID light, new tires, and new brake pads along with a "fairing removal" level of cleanup and re-assy. She's running like a hose and feeling new again... time to give the crotch rocket boys a head scratching experience :blum1:
Cool, I just put my first 257 miles on the new tires and I agree, the turn in is is really something!
The big FJ seems very nimble now and inspires confidence where none existed before.

Day 2 was excellent... once the squirmy newness wore off, these things are planted and I agree fully with "nimble". Hard to believe it is the same bike. Highly recommended for anyone looking for stock size tires.
Had a young rider on an R6 come alongside and complement the FJ. He asked how long I had been riding and I said 2 hours... joking of course, but then said about 40 years and he kind of laughed. I think he was about 25 or so... Anyway, the light changed and I walked him hard to 60 (ok, not a fair fight). I love this bike.

I hear ya, this old FJ still has it!
I rode to the Mississippi saturday with my son (919), his buddy (600 F4), and my buddy, (ZX14), and while passing cars I later learned that the 600 was down shifting to 2nd gear to stay with us and I was staying in 5th.
Big engines are a wonderful thing!

LOL a few years ago Calvin and I went for a nice long ride with a younger fellow from work. We both have fj 1200's and he was on a GSXR 600 and only replied those bikes are car passing motherfuckers!!!! we both laughed out loud....

Those orange thingies are turn signal? Last owner told me they were proximity sensors for reverse parking! No wonder they didn't work - I just been using hand signals (where's the flip the monkey emoticon?) :crazy:
