Hello everyone, just wanted to introduce myself and my bike to the forum. I picked up my 1984 FJ1100 with what looks like a VERY early production model of a VIN ending in 000139... I has 77,000 km/s but is in great shape and has been maintained. Needs some work, but considering I drove it home, not too bad! Keep you posted later with more info and pics.

Welcome to the group. Sounds like you got a nice find there. There's still some riding season left yet, so getter on the road :). A nice FJ1100 went by me on the 401 westbound last week(I wasn't on mine). It was running good!
My wife and I rode in the Motorsport Plus Breast cancer fund raiser (poker run) today. Excellent route! Went east to Napanee, north to Tamworth, northeast to Westport (Nice!) then back to kingston. Found new excellent backroads up there. Have to revisit them sometime!
What kind of stuff do you need to do to the '84? Everything you need is here. FJ experts included. :)
I ride through Gananoque regularly; nice 'hood you have out there :good:

Thanks so much guys, I can't get over the shape of this bike and the deal I got the more I look at it... It's only had 4 other owners in it's life, no 2nd gear issues, no smoke issues, etc and I picked it up for $1200. This forum is just great, especially when I see I have close neighbours with FJ's!
Things I need to do right away after a really good cleaning:
Clymer manual
Carb work (PO cleaned carbs and did not sync, etc...
Change Oil & Filter
Change HID headlamp back to OEM as it sucks big time power, at least it seems that way?
Tighten chain
Replace rear shock bushings that PO ordered..not sure about this yet
Replace front fork fluid, seals seem fine
Safety inspection could tell more...

Like others have said, you have found the right place for FJ people. You won't find a better group of guys and gals than the ones that hang out here.

Others on here have upgraded to HID headlamps with great results.......
They are reported to draw less current than the stock headlamp. You may have another issue like extra resistance in the wiring or connections..........

looks a lot like an 85' (but i know how different countries get different colors)

Welcome Tom, I just put HID on my 86' and am very happy with it. Make sure it is wired directly to the battery with some kind of relay that cuts off the lamp like OEM. The kit I used plugged in to the existing lamp connector so no wires were cut to make the install. So if your lamp dims and brightens as RPMs change then you do have a wiring issue to fix. Others may chime in as well that upgraded their lamps. Clean looking bike.
Thanks everyone, I think I have some other electrical gremlin and not the HID issue I thought I did...it's charging really well but not sure about the battery. The signals stop working after the bike has run for 5 minutes or so, must dig deeper....
