How much sence does this make?
I don't have a problem with it, as the miles between where I live, and where the Rally begins is nothing but vast amounts of straightline interstate.....BORING!!
What's your thoughts on the subject?
I dunno, kind of a touchy subject....At FJ rallys, folks have been known to piss on trailers....
Right Frank? (popcorn)
Sometimes I ride in, most times I trailer.
It's nice to bring more camping gear when one is staying a few nights in the same place, maybe even bring a dirt bike along.
It's also nice to have a trailer in case you manage to break important parts of your FJ right at the end of the rally, too. :unknown:

Pat, Fluffy & I have trailered our bikes to a rally.
We have no shame.
i have no shame either..... trailer that puppy across the boring parts.
KOokaloo!
Hell, trailer in if you want to. A lot of us have done it at one time or another, especially if we wanted to bring multiple bikes. Just be prepared to take a certain amount of light-hearted crap about it. Nobody really cares.
But, as Pat says, be prepared to wash the pee off.

after 6 or 7 hours on the bike (for a couple days) it was nice to relax on the ride home, there was construction and bad weather for the commute.
we was able to carry Tool boxes and FJ parts, no one seemed to complain when they were all hanging out near the TV.
However, Bob did leave his trailer home and used someone else's.

I'd like to point out that the '05 Colorado rally had close to 30 bikes and not one trailer! Well, except for maybe Lee's parked down the road a few miles away. :yahoo: I like the Mr. Bean precedent; bring a trailer, but be sure to put a fun little bike on it that you can share with everyone. :hi:
My bike rode in the back of a F-350 truck. No room in the 35' RV for an FJ!
My FJ and my SO's Interceptor both ride on the trailer to the rallies.....the SO says it's the only way he would be able to keep up with me. PLUS it's interstate and the rally dawg hasn't learned to ride on the back of my FJ. And I bring WAY too much stuff to not trailer.....
And if you got to pee on the trailer, have at it! Just remember paybacks....no rum cake!

I was kinda working on a plan to do the '11 WCR, until the talk of a CO rally came up, but the same plan works for me.
Trailer to Denver, and ride in from there... I have relatives I can probably drop the trailer with for a few days. :good:

Thanks for a mostly positive responces , except for the pissing part. :negative:
I just don't want to have all the fun worn off just getting there, and then dreading the long boring trip home!
I'd like to bring a couple of non-FJs with me, if that would be OK.
My buddys ZX14, and my sons 919.
Just to make it clear, I'm talking about the Colorado 2011 Rally that is still in the planning stages.
Thanks,
Leon
Long as they don't bring R1's,,,

Beware... I trailered my bike to the ECFR (for the first time*) a few weeks ago. Next morning went to pull out for the daily ride... kaput! Instantaneous catastrophic battery failure! I guess it was my bike's way of telling me "
don't ever do that again*I trailered part way in w/Frank once, he picked me up in NC & carried me thru the monsoon.
I got trailered home from my first Boone rally because of my pissing carbs.
It was way cool of Alasdair to offer the lift home to Ontario :good2: ... major hassle otherwise.
The following year we trailered there and back.
Personally, I prefer to ride all the way, but I'm always thankful to those (Frank, Bob W.) that bring all the extra gear and tools.
the mobile workshop trailer has come in handy many times........

That and Carey's truck! Which I've had to borrow at least 3 times. Only 1 of those times was for me, having to shop for a 16" rear tire in the middle of OBF Egypt. Thus the source of the current Harley Cruiser tire.
Which, even with the el cheapo, temporary Stop n Go mushroom plug was showing the rear taillight to a couple of CBR1000RRs just 2 weeks ago. Of course they almost plowed over me on the straights a few times. We had a little talk at the next stop about the difference between corner speed and straightaway speed.
I told them that I could probably find them a Harley tire in their size. :-)

+1... Carey's trailer came to the rescue again at both the ECSR and ECFR this year, this fall behind his
new truck. :good2:

Just my opinion but I like to truck in the the rallys .
haul the bike and all the gear , like sleeping bags and pillows , radio , beer cooler and bbq equipment.
you get to drive in comfort , smoke , drink and arrive refreshed and ready to ride like the wind.
not to mention my truck is a service body equipped with every tool to rebuild a fj on the spot.
+1. And Mark's spare sleeping bag has been tested & saved my bacon at '08 WCR.
Not a rally person, not a trailer fan....
But the only really bad thing to leave in after a ride is an ambulance. Otherwise, it's whatever you have that you enjoy the best, if you're in too much pain after riding to have enjoyed it, then it wasn't fun, why bother! Makes sense if you've got old bones or bad joints or an ass that can't handle the pounding for miles and miles....

Do the customers know they're getting a free "road test"? Because I'd like to make sure it works before I pay.
No it was a friends who's getting out of racin (smart basterd), that way I didn't need to demo a new one.
Notice the strap on rear wheels thats because there were no tire chocks in front. :dash2:
I'll use it again when we go VT.

I would have to say that in some cases, a trailer and a tow vehicle would be advantagious, and even welcome.
However Riding with Erich to and from the WCR this year was a very satisfying, and rewarding adventure (except for a stretch of about 5 hours around Santa Maria)
Experiencing the scenery, and the companionship on my FJ was, for me, far better than if I had done the same route in some other type of vehicle. I would definately do the same again.
Thanks again Erich, and Thanks again Marsh for organizing. :hi:
Anyway you get there is good!
The cross-country ride to and from rallies and such are some my best rides, though I did trailer a bike to Bike Week at Daytona one year. I've always made it back with no problem, maybe I'll re-think that as the FJ and I get older.
