This forum software sucks.

Build your own forum then. I think you may have the honor of being the first person who is annoying and enough of a dickhead to warrant me banning them. Why? Cuz I can - and I don't like you. I see that you are the same UJM guy that posted the private phone numbers and e-mails of another lister and was a general dickhead in this thread here: http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=2607.0 (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=2607.0)
Yeah - I'm pretty sure of it...I don't like you.
For what it's worth i find my self wishing other sites worked as well as this one..........
I have no real issues with this site's functionality or it's software either. Never had a password issue, that sure seems like user error.

Don't be a dick, Fluffy.
Just coz you dunno how to put together a website doesn't mean you should get the shits when professionals give you free advice.

But...but, but......dad! This guy gets to be a dick every day - can't I be a dick like him just this one time? I haven't banned anyone EVER in 19 months...can't I do it just this once? Please??????? Then I promise I'll be good!
Yeah! Do it! Gotta make sure that part of this software works :-) as well as the rest of it.
Arnie
this site rocks......UJM seems to be a whiner and general dickhead....... some things are inevitable.
KOokaloo!
Marsh, your site is hands down the best source of information and all around group of great folks I have the pleasure to be apart of.
To anyone who may have a problem with this site or its creater can piss off...

Thanks Eric! BTW: I just saw that someone put a poll up on top (it wasn't me) - that is hilarious!
probabtion ?
i believe in rehabilitation ..... as long as the offender isnt chronic let it ride with a warning. I think he got the message.
" opinion "
1) there is enough Kookaloo for all.
2) The power of the Sun...... thru the process of forming our very molecules.....created a universal bond known as the motorcycle...... we are a family.
3) as a family member I dont want to kick my brother out of the Alliance For Fun (AFF) for a momentary error in judgement and lack of consideration (and APPRECIATION) for others ..... let's communicate here....it's pretty simple.... UJM ....quit being a dick and people will be a helluva lot nicer to you (and maybe you wont get banned)
4) It is my opinion that The Alliance against fun (AAF) already has more than enough members without us nudging UJM in their direction hell, he may be a AAF member who is trying to get on the AFF path and is in desperate need of our support ? ..... this way to the light UJM..... :empathy2:
oh yeah.... KOOKALOOoooooooooooooooooo! it can save even a AAF member.. sometimes........ :hi:

I've never had a problem with this site, either with speed or functionality. I've got an issue with it backing up to the previous page in the middle of composing a post, but I'm 99% sure it's my browser or something in my keyboard setup, not the BB software. It's just an annoyance.
From his posts over the last few days, I think UJM got the point. Let 'im stay. Nothing wrong with a little dissention and diversity...as long as it stays civil.

Me too. I think the message has been sent. Proof of delivery is another issue. Time will tell ...

If we banned jackasses... it'd be a quiet, quiet place.
Honestly the best answer? Install an ignore plugin, to blind yourself to certain members. I'd use it in a heartbeat, I can't be the only one...

Got to say I've been guilty of coming on obnoxiously strong trying to make an impression on a group I wanted to fit in with and had it explained to me that it wasn't necessary. I'm still a wise ass but I try to get to know someone before I start with the merciless mocking. This site and the related forum features have always worked flawlessly for me, thus all the time I spend lurking. Even if there were glitches, I would be patient, cooperative, and helpful in return for the vast amount of technical knowledge, advice, camaraderie, and humor I have received from here. The freedom of this site DOES require a lttle responsibility. Guess I'm trying to agree with both sides. So ban the fucker if worth it for the short term gain, give him a (3rd? 4th?) chance if worth it for democracy. Or lure him to a rally and let nature take it's course.
Well, for what it's worth, I didn't ban him. He sent me a PM asking me to delete his accounts a couple of days ago....I didn't. (he never actually deleted it himself - which you can do - then I have to approve the deletion). That happens a fair bit from people who never post (wanting to checkout the files section I gather). I think if you delete someones account it also deletes their posts? I'm not 100% sure actually...I need to check that out via testing. I wouldn't want to delete the history of this incident.
Note: he never sent me a PM asking me to reset the password on his old account...that would have been logical to me if I were him and created a new account because I was locked out of my old one.
Anyway - he is free to post here - I suppose I was feeling a bit rash with my ban response. Then again - I can re-read everything and then I feel like banning him again. Oh well...I'm over it for now.
This forum software sucks on my system, no others do.
Right now, I am typing faster than the words print - I do not have this problem on any other forum.
I've not stopped in here for a bit, maybe I should of waited a little longer.
You want to test the delete function, I'll send you the little message to do so, blow this one away.
If/when I want back in, I'll email you under UJM.
Have a great week everyone.
it has to be something with your computer, I don't ever remember this site working slow, loading pages (even with smileys) or typing.
and i have a wireless to boot.
so before you blame the forum software you should check your own, or at the very least check with other people to see if they have
similar problems before you just start running your mouth (fingers) about how much this site's software sucks.

The only problem I have ever had with this forum, or software therein........has been when I try reading posts, or posting when I am logged in through AOL software.
If I log in directly through IE, everything works perfectly........
I blame AOL for that....... :dash2:

I'm running Internet Explorer, as mentioned, I have no problems on any other major web forum.
I've been banned from this site and had my IP blocked, so that part of the software works brilliantly!
As we all know, there are ways around anything.
My best to all, this is a great forum (other than my issue with the software, that is!)

I don't think Marsh banned you, and while a motion was made for such, it never went anywhere. Don't leave, just play nice & all will be OK.

Yes I did ban him. He can fuck off. He requested that I delete his account and so I did. Then I saw that it was he who had posted the poll up on top. I only realized this because as I was looking at his account I saw him CHANGE the poll questions so that the answers that people had voted on were completely changed while adding new derogatory selections. In other words - rigging a vote. This is completely unethical to me and will not be tolerated. He had multiple opportunities to be a decent human being - yet he still had to go being a dick and slinging mud. So I banned him.
Then the whiny little bitch FINIALLY sent me an e-mail saying he couldn't believe I banned him and wanting to be let back in. I did not respond. He can continue to go to his neighbors houses and create accounts on their computers and I will continue to ban those IP addys as well.
Marsh, way to take a stand.... we certainly dont need the added hassle from someone not capable of figuring out this easily used forum...
I'm sure GEorge will help him out over on the Yahoo site......

Fair enough. I didn't know (or want to) the backstory. Now that I do, I'm done with him too. Next!
OK, so don't ban me but....... :)
I to do have had a couple problems with the forum software. Not so much on my desktop computers with lots of horsepower, but when I'm in the garage with my netbook or posting with my iTouch. I think it's the 2 rows of animated smileys that are using up my netbooks horsepower. Also the typing window doesn't scroll up on my netbook, maybe due to the limited screen resolution. Not too much of a problem, just have check my typing after the fact. It is, however, nothing to get my shorts in a knot about or go about being a dickhead.
Cheers
Clarification: I received an e-mail from UJM letting me know (calling me a "bald faced liar, a joke and a small person" to name a few) that it was not he who originally posted the poll up on top (absolutely irrelevant to my point). However he did admit to changing it. That's the unethical part.
I had the forum setup so that the original poster of a poll could edit it. Somehow this also applied to the original creator of the entire thread as well - hence his ability to edit the poll. Because of this incident, I now have made it so that no one can edit a poll in the future - so make sure you get it right the first time!

I also had a problem with the site being slow to load and change between posts . took forever to view and reply. I corrected the problem my self by getting a better computer.
it wasn't just the fj site but others as well , so I don't think it was a software problem with the site , just an old pos computer slow as a covered wagon.
All is well now with no problems. :good2:
Only problem I've got with this forum software is occasionally I get a session timeout when I hit mark all read. Seems to be inconsistent and it varies according to which box i'm using at the time, and it comes and goes depending on what patches I've got on, so I figure it's just ubuntu releasing stuff that breaks bits here and there. Not much issue, really.

I suspect that this is due to the fact that the site is not optimized for mobile devices. Don't blame the software. Basically, it requires a secondary site and a redirect when a mobile device is detected. It would be up to Marsh to make this happen, if possible; after all, it's his site (and thank you, Marsh).
Personally, I don't see the need.

The "posting field" not scrolling problem does happen with certain versions of Internet Explorer. As near as I can tell it does not happen with Firefox, Safari, Chrome or Opera browsers. I also think it is limited to older versions of Internet Explorer. I do not know a way to fix this. I usually post with Firefox or Chrome.
Also, this site works fine (smileys and all) on my HP Netbook (granted I did upgrade the RAM from 1G to 2G). Try the google Chrome browser - it should fix up your Netbook issues too.
Also, FWIW this site works and displays great on my Google Nexus One cellphone - even with the default browser. It re-sizes when I turn the display orientation and fills the screen just like on my computer. Even the smileys load pretty fast.
Most of these issues with PHP websites are usually remedied by upgrading your browser. IE 6 is ancient and sucks! (even worse than this forum software) ;
