Hi All,
Has anyone tried the gsxr rear wheel mod on the earlier FJ yet, '85-'87? From what I've read it's only been done on the second generation..any thoughts.
thanks
chris
Should work the same as any other.
This going the long way around, but after I did my GSX-R swap on my '91 and burned the tire offYamaha FJ1200 burnout competition Barre VT (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRsjqUKFh94#), I swapped every piece back in from my '84 FJ1100 parts bike to keep riding (on a 20 year old bias with 0 miles!!) while saving for a new rear tire. As far as I can tell dimensions are the same for all years. Should work. Finding all the right GSX-R parts together is a bitch. Just sayin.
Its already in the files, search first, then ask questions.

I've done it on my '84. Bolted right in.
All you got do is make sure that you get every thing from the same axle! I am in the proccess of the mod right now, I got an 89' rear wheel 17x4.5" from the breakers with god only knows what spacers etc.

That's exactly the wheel I used when changing mine to a 17" back in '98.
If you have any problems or questions, feel free to PM me or ask here.
On that wheel your maximum tire width is 170, but I've used 160/60's since the change and been very pleased with the results.
Cheers,
Arnie

hi mate, im just sorting out my gsxr wheel swap , but not sure if i have the spacers right, everything lines up as it should, everything is centered, but the wheel seems to be harder to spin than it should be, i also didnt use the 1mm washers as some have, just an extra spacer on the right and about a 3mm one on the left with a shortned gsxr one that came with the 89 wheel, just wondering what you did with yours

Make sure there is a spacer between the wheel bearings...

This is something I would like to do to my 86 when I get it up and running. I'd like to pick you brain on it.
You could not understand how happy the news that this can be done makes me! I was an incredibly stressed little boy at the idea of having to find the dough to pay someone to machine an 'ace swingarm for me. Chuffed I am.
