Title: A little help?
Post by: the fan on March 19, 2009, 08:49:12 PM
I am having a set of custom leathers built by Spartan Leathers out of Indiana. http://www.spartanleathers.com/ (http://www.spartanleathers.com/)  My old suit has been patched (and let out) one too many times and its time for something new.
I found out about the Spartan brand at a trackday last fall, a rider was wearing one and it looked like a nice suit, clean lines and well built. The guy raved about the quality and service so I checked them out. I was pretty sceptical when I saw the price, (mine will be right around $500.00) but I have since checked out 2 other suits and it compares very favorably to the "name brand" mid level suits which generally run $700.00+ for an off the rack suit.
Another bonus is that most "rack" suits are sized with way too short of a torso, forcing me to but a suit that is too large and having it modified. With a custom suit this will not be an issue.

The issue I am having is in deciding on a color scheme. I considered all black, but even with perforation it would be damn hot on a sunny day. I decided to add some color, and the pics below show what I have come up with, but I really have no taste...

Which one do you think is best? what would you change? I am going with the Spartan Charge one piece deleting the speed hump, logos, and collar, but adding armor and upgraded zippers.

That does sound good.. Have they measured you yet?  Maybe they don't realize how much leather we're talking about..

Glad I'm not a cow in Indiana about now  ;D

You'd think white shoulders would be a pain to keep cleaning bug guts from?

I'd say #4, replace the colored bits with something that matches at least some of yer machines.

Number 4 and change the red to blue. They sure look like nice leathers for the money. Especially being custom built as well.

Cheers...Jake

Klavdy,

Me thinks you protest too much, will you quit shouting if I promise to send you pics of me wearing the suit?

Update time!

Here is the final scheme I decided on for my new suit.

I sent my order in about 5-6 weeks back and Dave made sure that I got onto the order he had just sent out.  Can't say enough good things about the way he does business.

Last night I got tracking info on my new threads, and this morning found teaser pics on the Spartan website.

I am pretty excited as this is my first fully custom suit, all the others have been purchased off the rack and altered to fit.

I will be sitting on the curb waiting on UPS all day tomorrow :buttrock:

OK I got the suit a few weeks ago and am very impressed with the quality and fit. I had been a bit concerned, but should not have been.

Hopefully I won't have to test out its crash worthyness any time soon, but I can say that the suit compares very favorably to the Alpinestar, Teknic, Speed and Stregnth, and Joe Rocket suits I compared it to. Keep in mind also that the least expensive of the suits I compared it to retailed $250.00 more than what I paid and was not custom fitted.
