I have come out of a building to find it lit up. If I lock the steering it comes on but if I just get off the bike and switch it to the off section it stays off. Is this just a little message that it needs replacing ASAP.
Nope, some models were wired that way....... something to do with clearance lighting for when parked out in the street at night maybe?
But I do recall this from some article I read somewhere.

There is a position in the keyswitch on US bikes that locks the steering AND powers the frt markers and taillight, sounds like you turned the key a click too far when you locked the steering....

Once click locks the steering. Two clicks locks the steering and turns the parking lights on.
I was in a hurry one morning and I accidently switched the parking lights on when locking the bike. When I got off of work that day, ready to start my vacation, my battery was stone dead. :dash2: Now I always make sure to lock the steering only.

+2 Second click turns on the back light. Instead of burning the parking light I disconnected the power feed to the light and now use that 12v power for my wireless pager alarm. Works great.

That is funny. I did the same thing while I was at a conference about 300 miles from home.
