Title: charging problems
Post by: fjkid on August 26, 2010, 10:21:55 AM
ok so i have a 1985 fj1100

has a 2 month old battery

I will charge it up and sometimes it will run then bog down and die after bout 5 min.

other times it will not even have enough juice to start the stupid thing

I'm thinking parasitic draw/some shabby wiring from previous owner

I'm no electrician but i do have a dvom so i can test parts i don't know how and where to start because my clymer manual hasn't arrived yet...

also when it is running i have a popping sound in my 1st and 2nd carbs on the left side and it's dumping fuel out of the little 2 in between the two carbs

any help would make me happier than a coondog on a bare leg

what is the voltage at idle? at 2500 rpm?

while you  wait for your manual . drain the carbs and flush fuel thru them.

check your wiring at battery for good connections and chase down all grounds and secure them.

Please change your avatar , it makes me wanna puke. :bad:

sho nuff after digging out all of my wires and tracing every wire on the bike i've found cheapo thin gauge wiring scabbed in and just twisted together then taped over... lots of scrapes and exposed wires... grounds are all clean and tight... yeesh :negative:

i happen to love the fail of my avatar lol
